Just curious ... what are you (anyone can answer) using for ad banner management software?<

Nothing, don't use them. I dislike them wherever I encounter them, I would detest them on my own server.<

Gee! That is really nice. Why is it that PHP has a lot of nice stuff. Do you know of anything done in Classic ASP that is open source and free or reasonably affordable?

I need something that has the same or similar licensing as does Snitz. I need something that I am free to alter the source code to make it do what I need it to do.

Thanks for the suggestion!

I've worked some with AdMentor, but the software does not allow it to be altered other than cosmetically to look like it is seamless with the site.<

I only know commercial applications then, and ... not a affordable for a small organization

give it a try on this PHP thing, I do hate PHP but... better that than nothing, at least you can take the functionality of it and build your own <

Well, shoot! What are the commercial apps you recommend. I've been searching for a couple of days sorting through demos and license agreements as well as contacting authors about what I can and can not do.

I didn't understand the nature of coding for advertising via the web when I first started my quest for programs, but as I've been looking at the demos and seeing the complexity of it all, I am welcoming the idea of paying for a decent program and then modifying it (with permission, of course) to suit my needs.

Thank you for the help!

This too is php, but it integrates nice into my php / cold fusion site.

I think it's a one man show, but the developer has been fantastic in responding to custom requests.

OpenX is nice, but I struggled with it a few times and gave up.<

I use the following that I put together that shows random banners on every refresh of the page: Classic Snitz Demo

I think I have it packaged up somewhere, but if not, it would not take long to put together for a download. It has it's own Access 2000 DB.<

Cheers,

I use this on http://www.coastercrazy.com/ in the forum topic pages and track detail pages at the topic using the jscript method to display the ads. It gives you a couple options on how to display the banner, jscript, asp tear, etc and shows impressions, can set it to expire by date, by ad impressions or something else I think. It's alright in my opinion and not horribly overpriced. You can let your customers login and view the impressions and ctr they have by day.<

Thanks for that Wee,

I did read one of his posts where he said that he allows the package to be modified.

When you add a new banner to a client, does the ad show up in the rotation automatically, or do you have to manually have to add the code to the page for that ad?

Thanks!

it automatically displays it to whichever... channel, should I say, place the ad in. Send me an email and I'll give you admin access to it so you can browse around and tinker with it. <

I haven't looked at one of these, but I've seen plenty of banner ads - and I don't think it would be too terribly difficult to write an asp advert management program.

So that everything could be controlled from a web access point, administrative management could include the following:
  1. On/off check boxes or radio buttons
  2. Hyperlink value fields for each customer's banners
  3. A field for page names in which to display banners
  4. Click counter for each banner

A few questions would need answers:

  1. Do you want strict rotation, rotation with randomization, or simply randomization of a customer's ad banners?

  2. Do you need to track the date of inclusion of a new banner (for billing, commissions, etc?

  3. Do you want multiple customers' ad banners displayed at the same position, or each customer will have a dedicated display position?

  4. Assuming that all hyperlinks will reflect your particular alpha-numeric identifier to the end customer, do said links remain constant per customer or do some banners modify the links?

  5. Are all display areas (if more than one) the same size?

  6. & finally,

  7. Are there any other considerations, requirements for administrative management that I have not included?

Well, what I need is a base to work from and then I can develop what I really want to do which is something that I have not seen yet in any of the packages I have looked into as of late.

I'm not sure if you are wanting to 1) MOD this for everyone as a public offering for open-source or if 2) you are asking me specifically for my private needs for hire. If 2), then please shoot me an e-mail, ok? If 1) then that is awesome just as well. Folks have been asking for a banner management MOD around here for years.

Thanks either way CareFree!

I'll write it open-source & free. I haven't programmed for money since 93 when I was writing software for Commodore. Just trying to get a wish list so that I cover as many bases as possible before making it available - that way there'll be fewer modifications required.

Here's what I was thinking, basically:

  1. On/off check boxes or radio buttons (per banner or per customer)

  2. Hyperlink value fields for each customer's banners

  3. A field for page names in which to display banners

  4. Keyword description field(s) - for searching

  5. Customer Info

    1. Date of banner inclusion - for billing/commissions, etc.

    2. Customer contact information

    3. Customer banner list

    4. Banner click counter

    5. Banner click counter

  6. Display sequencing

    1. Rotation

    2. Rotation with randomization

    3. Randomization

  7. Display location/size

    1. Banner position

    2. Banner page

    3. Banner dimensions

  8. Default banner for periods when customer is in arrears or quits

  9. Banner search page
