Latest version of Snitz with CDOSYS IIS 5/5.1/6. Email works great although I'm sending it through my ISP mail server to a domain that is forwarding it back. looks like paying for a server to get mailboxs next.
Problem is that no mail seems to turn up to Hotmail accounts. Anyone seen this before?
Apart from that I'm getting there slowly.

I'm hoping this will get to be a busy forum just need to work harder on the front end. 3 days work here n there |

If other mail services are getting the email then the problem is with Hotmail, most likely it's spam filters |

So you need a sender ID:
If your e-mail does not have a Sender ID, Microsoft wants to junk your message.
Sometime around November, Hotmail and MSN will flag as potential spam those messages that do not have the tag to verify the sender, Craig Spiezle, a director in the technology care and safety group at the software maker said Wednesday. The move is meant to spur adoption of Sender ID, he said.
Sender ID is a specification for verifying the authenticity of e-mail by ensuring the validity of the server from which the e-mail came. While the purpose of curbing junk mail may be laudable, the debate on how to stop the tide of junk mail is still ongoing. According to Microsoft, up to 90 percent of e-mail is spam.
Critics say Sender ID, which includes technology developed by Microsoft, is not an accepted standard and has many shortcomings. Also, there are technologies that compete with Sender ID, such as Yahoo's DomainKeys...

I just think it is bloody hilarious that the three organisations responsible for most of the spam are the ones preventing other legit people sending them mail, and using a completely non standard and un ratified protocol to boot. |

Thx for the replies. So, in theory it can be done. I'm not sure what i'm doing in the wizards as this is pretty new stuff to me.
I have a domain registered of www.wccf-uk.co.uk which points to the site on a free server. I've put my ISP's mail server in the snitz email setup but i'm using webmaster@wccf-uk.co.uk as the email address. I presume that my emails are being sent from the server, to my ISP to be relayed to 123-reg (Domain registered there) which is then sending them back to my ISP.
Maybe this would be easier on a server that I'll have to pay for
Maybe if I used the ISP's email address to send out mail it would be easier but then they wouldn't look as though they had came from the site?
Ok I tried the MS wizard and got somthing to happen I presume the domain would be the server sending the mail which would be my ISP? I got this "One or more functional SPF record(s) have been found for the domain" Domain removed as I noticed someone got told off in another post. then there were ip address as well. Then it got confusing. very confusing I'll just have to validate hotmail accounts manually for now, can't get my head around it
Thanks again for the answers though.. |

123-reg only web forward and forward email to my domain. My isp's email server settings are just the mail.******.co.uk. Maybe they would do it if I paid to have my site hosted there but I don't think they support asp? Hmmmm |

I'm not sure if I get a mail server on my free server. I'll check it out later thanks. Got my hands full with an african grey parrot on the loose right now. |

Podge. I just read your last post again. I'll try and explain more clearly. This is how I think it's working.
Mail is sent from the forum. In the settings I used my ISP mail server so i believe it is sent to my ISP. The ISP server then sends it to Domain Email that doesn't really exist. 123-Reg then forward my Domain email back to my ISP.
So an email from webmaster@wccf-uk.co.uk goes forum to ISP, isp to domain host, domain host back to isp, isp to inbox?
I did it this way to try and get emails look as though they had been sent from the domain.
I tried using my isp email as I've just set-up a 4th pop account of wccf@MYISP.co.uk. This didn't go down to well!
All in all I wish I could make this work with Hotmail etc but if i'm stuck now i think i've done ok for a newbie but I'm glad I got the help from people "in the know" on this forum.
Thx again |
