In Firefox 1.5's (PC) options, in the update section, under the advanced tab, there is the option to automatically download and install updates and you can also choose to receive notification if any update will disable an extension or theme.

You're right Shaggy. Well, there is one way to prove that there was an update. Go into your Tools -- Options -- Advanced -- Update tab. Click the "Show Update History" button and see if any updates were done.
