Roger, why do you try to link to topic_pop.asp, and not just topic.asp ? http://avgifter.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=134 works fine (except for the error in the header, but that hás to be some other miscoding.
I see tha you're using a target parameter in your url, however, not correctly! this isn't a correct url! You cannot specify the target frame in the forumcode URL's! Now, the site is looking for a topic with Topic_id equals 134 target= new ... |

Ok, target parameter and topic_pop are gone and the forum is private.
After logging in (e.g. reporter/EYXIOA) the link never-the-less produces a page where you are not logged in. User1 and User2 should have the value "reporter" which is the case when you open a topic via the Java menu "Rĺd & Debatt".
That is my problem and it makes me sleepless (almost).

If you're logged in, or had Save Password checked when you last visited, clicking a link won't affect that, so you will be logged in when you do it. Of course, you may have cookie problems, but that should also affect "normal" logins. |

ruirib et.al., that is what I expected but it doesn't work on my site. Did you try to recreate the error(?)on my portal-page by clicking topic after login. When I do that a new window opens (good) but it also seems to log me out (bad). Staying in the new window and chosing portal page or default page I am asked to login. |

Roger,
I didn' quite understand what happened. Swedish is not easy for me :). Anyway I think I was logged in, since I got to see the topic, so the problem is, quite likely, with your browser. For me both user1 and user2 had the value "reporter". |

ruirib ok, thank you for spending time to help me. Sometimes I also get user1/2=strDBTNUserName but not always and that really messes everything up. What if I instead send the value of mlev and strDBntUserName to "topic_pop.asp" (I am not going to change topic.asp) and comment out the corresponding lines in "inc_header_pop.asp". Do you think/know that it will work as if the page in the new window always understand that you are logged in?
If not, what kind of pb could it be with my browser - I have tryed it with two different computers (although both with MSIE) and they give same unpredictable answer.
PS Portuguese would be more than not easy for me and I envy your English and pregnant comments and answers DS |

Roger, I don't know what topic_pop.asp is, since it's not present in the Snitz base code.
Now, to narrow down the cause for your problem, do you usually have problems login in to your forum, or is it just in this case? Usually, when you visit your forum, do you have to login repeatedly, or are you logged in automatically? |

I did change inc_header by commenting lines when I installed universal-login from SnitzBitz to avoid upper right corner login info. Not before nor after I have had any problems with login. This is the only case.
topic_pop is just my way of seperating my pop-up version from Snitz base code. The file is identical to topic.asp except that the head of the page do not have menu etc because I am going to use it with JavaScript:openWindow5open(http......). Just now this version is not part of the pb. I would be very happy if I always got the link to topic.asp to recognize me as loggeed in when I am. I notice that you were reconized but often - not always - I am not. However on ny local server I am always recognized as logged in when I am. Is it possible to simply substitute reading the cookie by sending the values in the link ...&mlev=[mlev]&strDBNTUserName=[strDBNTUserName]. I will give the latter a try tomorrow - after a good nights sleep.

Is there a reasonably simpel way to walk around the pasword-requirement? The link is only available for members so I do not need to protect the pages generated. It looks like if you are right about the browser. I have tried Netscape and Firefox and both of them generate the correct page with topic-link but none is able to understand Quick-Reply :( Is there an Alexander cut around the corner? Could it be the comlexity of topic.asp causing the MSIE to often misunderstand the link. The link should only show all posts and give the member the opportunity to reply only to this one topic. |

Roger, this works perfectly for me. I got back to your forum just now, and I was logged in automatically, from my previous visit (I use IE). So I guess this is a problem with your own browser, not even with IE.
Clear your cookies and try again. I'm sure it will work as expected. |

Glad to hear but still not working at my place with MSIE when I clic the topic-link(I did clear the cookies as I have done 100 of times in an ever increasing level of desperation). However Firefox do the right thing. I will try on an other computer with an earlier version of MSIE tomorrow.
You didn´t comment my ideas about deactivate security in a special-designed topic.asp namned topic_pop.asp. Is that not doable with only very basic knowledge of ASP? Non-cookie-mode just for topic_pop.asp, would that be possible and will it in that case solve the problem if it is because of MSIE:s behavior? |
