I have a little survey for those of you who frequent these snitz forums. The reason for the survey is to help me decide whether or not to write a mod I had an idea for. I have a couple rules...

Rules:
  1. Only users who frequent the forum on a regular basis answer the questions
  2. Please answer the question directly, no side-tracking
  3. Dont request a mod here, this isnt a mod request thread
  4. Dont ask about the potential mod, if I want you to know, you'll know

Questions:

  1. What is your main method for navigating snitz?

    1. Active.asp only, on a set refresh rate (30 min or less)
    2. Active topics first, then browse forum by forum
    3. Browse forum by forum, then active.asp
    4. Only when I'm notified of a reply to a topic I subscribed
    5. Other (specify)

  2. How many times a day do you visit snitz?

    1. 0-2
    2. 2-4
    3. 4-6
    4. 6 or more
    5. you kidding? I sit at active.asp all day

  3. What duration of time are you usually on the snitz website, per visit?

    1. less than an hour
    2. 1-2 hours
    3. All day

Semi-related to the topic.....

For my support forums I built a dotnet app which notifies me when a new topic is posted and if I have any private messages. It enables me to respond immediately. It includes an rss reader and browser too. I hope to include support for "subscribed topics" at a later stage. Once I get the bugs worked out I hope to release it as a mod.

well, I was going to say that I use the RSS with Trillian which basically does the same thing.... but didn't want to go off topic.

I also use this on my forum and my techie-members seem to really like it. They use different readers, but that doesn't matter because of the XML file:

I know Stimmy.

Dayve, you just ruined my day.
Sorry to bring this off topic but how do you setup notifications with trillian? I can't seem to do it.

I have the paid-for version of Trillian which gives you access to plugins to do this. However, there are a lot of other RSS desktop integrated apps out there that provide similar services. I think HoverDesk is one of them and the Opera browser has one too, so I was told. I'll see what I can find on Google.

Update. Here is a free reader/notifier that I've used in the past:
