it's a running battle between ie (with XPSP2 to make it way safer and block popups) and firefox (plusses - tabbed window, great addins like developer toolbar minuses - as it gets more popular, more and more vulns being published, no automatic update, have to de-install and re-install, installer sometimes fails to ask for required filepath). |

Been an Explorer man since I took me first steps on the interweb. But with the lack of support for newer versions of XHTML and CSS and the fact that we're not going to see a new version until Longhorn is released, I've started making the move to Firefox. Apart from the drawbacks Pdrq mentioned, the one thing that's keeping me from dumping IE altogether is the fact that FireFox doesn't open up Notepad when I view source from the browser window.

Well when I started using the Web, there was not much more than Netscape. I really enjoyed it and I only moved to IE when Netscape stopped showing some of my frequent sites correctly. Have stayed with IE ever since and I feel happy with it. I guess i'm a bit of a conservative type, now. Never change easily if what I use works well. |

I have downloaded and tried most browsers out there and I always come back to IE. However, for the past year and a half I've been running NetCapter, which uses the IE engine. |

Internet Explorer, because it just works. I've tried Opera, Netscape, Firefox, etc... Just don't like them, they are alternative browsers, and they definitely feel like it. |

Firefox. I actually worry about the security less with it than IE. The only problem are those IE sites which don'T show well. Luckily that'S not much of a problem since I'm mostly visiting very large sites which have very good compatibility. |

I've tried heaps and heaps of browsers in my time. I can remember having Netscape Navigator on a Macintosh and back then it was superior to anything and everything else available.
I'm an IE man now though - it does everything it has to and nothing more. |

has to be firefox. Firstly, it displays websites the way they were intended to be seen. Secondly, as its nowhere neaqr as prolific as IE, its not targetted by spyware in the same way. Thirdly, ive not seen a popup a didnt want to see in about three months, and lastly, it just keeps getting better, where internet explorer has been at a stand still for a long time.

Well, thats debatable. Most webpages are designed for IE these days.
Which brings up another issue, standards.
What makes the W3C standard any more valid than the microsoft standard eh? |
