Not too sure how that would work then as my Cable doesn't require any logons. Theres bound to be a hack available though, have you looked over on their forums (they are relatively new forums so aren't a lot of posts there but theres still a pretty active mailing list) |

I checked the forum alittle, most posts tend to be about not being able to connect to the webserver from behind the firewall.. *doh* =) I would also like to have a third nic in the fw, but I want that to be green too... Or am I able to connect, say a laptop, to the orange network and surf the net/check mail and so on from there? |

For a third Nic you'd have to use a DMZ (orange) afaik smoothie will only let you have one of each interface type red/green/orange.
Alternatively just connect the Green NIC to a Switch or Hub and plug your additional machines into the network that way.
I've been running webservers behind smoothwall for ages, never once had it not work, reading some of the mailing lists though etc I get the impression there's a good few people trying to use smoothwall that don't really have a clue about port forwarding etc. |

Yeah, I have a hub where my servers are but not at home. I won't be needing one in a few weeks either so I don't want to buy a new one =) But it should work having a "workstation" on the orange network? |

It will work, but just remember your Orange zone is a DMZ so it doesn't have the full protection of the firewall |

Well a DMZ (demilitarized zone) basically firewalls off that PC from your GREEN Network, it's used to isolate Internet facing web and mail servers from the local network, It should be pretty well covered by the Firewall actually come to think of it, I've just not tested Smoothwalls DMZ fully to be able to see what is and what isn't covered.
Perhaps post the question at their forum and ask what firewall protection your ORANGE Nic will receive. |
