Anyone using smoothwall firewall? (www.smoothwall.org). I can't get access to my webserver from the internet anymore.. I've followed the manual and talked to others who have this firewall.. no luck.. I use IIS for webserver.

I have a port forwarding to the internal IP on port 80, and I have opened the port in "services". All according to the manual.. I can access the webserver "locally" from behind the firewall but not from outside... |

I've used Smoothwall for ages, it works fine.
You don't need to open the port in services, just the port forward is all you need. Make sure the forward you created is "TCP" and not "UDP"
Also one thing to note is that from internal to your network you will not be able to access the webserver using the "public" outside IP address, you'll need to use the internal one. |

Ah!!!
This is why I had so many server problems. Why is this? It also happens without the firewall (I have a MS wired router same happened on my Netgear router) |

It's just the way the routing usually works, not much you can do about it, and is easy enough to work around once you know about it. |

Problem solved, I had to create a new web in my IIS, then everything worked fine.. But I had to open the port in services too for things to work. Same with my smtp-server... |

What version of Smoothwall ? grab the latest BETA you shouldn't need with that to open any Services ports. |

The Beta is rock stable as well for me (haven't had a problem with any of the Beta's actualy) and is actually considerably better than the version GPL 1.0 stable becuase it uses a newer kernal and iptables instead of ipchains etc. |

unfortunately you can't just upgrade "over the top" of GPL. You'd need to do a full reinstall of the beta5. |

How are you connecting to your ISP ? Modem or DSL ? theres definately settings in the version I'm running to allow you to enter your ISP username and password.
I'm on Cable so I dont actually need to log on to my ISP so I can say I've tested that part of it though. |
