I've been wanting to get into web design for a while since my friends want me to make webpages for them cuz I made one with Yahoo Geo§hitties a while back , which was really really horrific. But as I've used Geocities WYSIWYG program for a while, I've gotten decent at it, and accustom to using it. But, it's gotten old fast. So I'm looking for a new WYSIWYG (Dreamweaver, Frontpage, GoLive, etc.) I want a WYSIWYG program because I know absolutely diddly crap about HTML or any coding language. Any help is appreciated (and links).

P.S.- my site that I've been working on with geocities is in my sig. if you want to see it, some people think it looks good, I think it looks crappy, that's why I want a better program Thanks!

I think most people will say that Dreamweaver is what you want, if you can afford it--it's a bit pricier than FrontPage. You might want to download a trial version to see how you like it. I think it's a lot of fun to use.

Since I don't use WYSIWYG editors, I cannot recommend one. I can only suggest you try before you buy.

btw - your site doesn't look crappy IMO, but I get JavaScript errors... you might want to fix this.

Ok, I'm downloading the trial version of Dreamweaver, although I don't know when I'll be able to afford a $400 program (I'm only 16,+ car payments and insurance are costly for me)

Before I install Dreamweaver and start the 30 day countdown, are there any readme files or help files that anyone can recomend that could help me so I don't spend all of the 30 days trying to figure it out?

Onewaymule- what kind of errors are you getting? I've had my friends look it over, and no one else is getting error, or maybe it's because we're all using IE I'm not good at figuring out errors if you can't tell

also, here are some free WYSIWYG editors. I don't know how good any of them are, but it wouldn't hurt to try them:

Macromedia sells a student version for $99. Also, their Studio MX is $199. The restriction of course is that it is to be used for educational purposes and cannot be used for financial gain.

I can't find anything on Macromedia's site about Student Versions. Do you know if they do or not? I was going to contact them, but I think that you have to own a full version of the software to be 'eligable' to contact them. That is the impression that I got from their support pages at least.

Edit-when i typed this up I guess you were writing those, lol.
Wow! Thanks for finding the student version! I think I'll get that if I like/understand the trial version (only took 15 minutes to download) So my understanding of this is that you can still make sites using this version of Dreamweaver, but you can't use the sites that you make to make money...am I right?

Students and educators are allowed to use the educational version, but you're not supposed to use it to build commercial sites.

I started with Dreamweaver with an older version of this book. It is very basic, but at least gets you up to speed in the WYSIWYG HTML editor world.

I can even mail you my old copy (if you're in the US), since I don't use it anymore. Just email me if you're interested (no charge, don't worry). It's an old version, but the basic stuff is still the same.

The student version still has all the same functions though, right? Or did they take certain options out of it?

A student version is only a cd-set of the full package. Manuals are not included.

Ok, so what stops people from making commercial websites to use for their profit?
