On the subject of IP's here's an interesting one for you - Ntl (UK) have started routing all their customers through proxy servers which their main exchanges hold. So for instance all users of Ntl Broadband in the North and West of Leeds will effectively show the same IP address. Nottingham (UK) has 8 proxy servers so all their users in the Nottingham area and UK customers who are transparently assigned, will find themselves showing IP's relating to the Nottingham proxies and not their own static address.
If the IP ban was to be used in this case would it not prevent groups of people from accessing the forum rather than an individual? How would the cookie work in this case? Would every user of the banned IP's also receive the cookie?

Thanks,
Banning an IP in this case would result of the banning of any user coming through that Proxy box. In this case the cookie would still be effective, but only untill the user cleaned the cookie from their machine.
I have been working on IPBlock 2.0 lately, which includes a Interface for the DB, as well as some nifty new tricks to ban people. This version will also include something for the situations like you describe above. In addition, you will be able ban by Network, Region and specify the ban & URL redirect on each user.
I was working on very similar mod like yours, just was too lazy to complete it. (it has colorful warnings and explanations) If you want me to host the file for free email me at: m_sereda@hotmail.com subject - host a mod from snitz
That was a true nuke for the problem user! I had to force quit my browser. I could not keep up with the windows opening. May I get a copy of that .asp? I don't have problem children yet but, that would fix it!... I just read your post and saw you would put it in the download. Thanks, this mod is not something you want to have to use but if the need arises....
