There is a new phone scam goin around
What happens is your phone rings showing the name "ace?" and when you pick up it scans all you detales and things so it would have your creditcard numbers and all that. Just thought i would let everyone know. |

Same as any other number I think the theory is that it saves them entering it every time they purchase something. |

as a number I guess. just enter a name that says visa card or something and the number where you would normally put the phone number. |

Hmmm - this is curious. Surely if this is real, this would depend on the phone's OS? And the network operator, too.
Had a quick search on securityfocus, found nothing. If you can find any source for this, I'd be fascinated to read more about this - cheers :) |

You guys aren't in the know? Phones built after 2001 can store credit card numbers when you speak them over the phone or enter them into a billing-over-the-phone option. Then these systems call your number and retrieve the previously stored information. Furthermore, private investigators are now using this same technology to catch marital infedility; Trying to retrieve recorded conversations with a lover and such. I believe the technology was a spin off of the Carnivore FBI program and a combination of Dragon Speak Software. From what I understand, they are attempting to get data gathered this way to be admissable in court.
That's not the worse part. If you use a headphone type device, the kind that "plugs" into your ear, like for cell phones, it can actualy record your thoughts the same it would record and store voice calls. Imagine the ramifications!!!
These are dangerous times!!! |
