laser, you got it right 121 has the domain in there name. Gremlin as you can see if it was just the data I would count my losses and move on but as its both data and the domain I want to get some thing back and I will take this issue to court if it comes down to it ! I feel so Strongly on this issue.

121 have not gone bust they are still operating so they should at least answer my emails. 121 are even a member of this forum.

I had similar experience with 121 when they offered free hosting accounts. It worked for few days then suddenly it went offline. Response to my email was that my files were deleted because they were in wrong folders on their server and account has been cancelled. I sent several emails after that and got no response. It was free account so I did not follow up further. But it was very unprofessional of them.

Simon, pursue if you want to, but this is the trap of 'free domain name'. I went thru a similar example a few years ago with namezero, but it was more a bet with a friend. He reckoned they registered it in my name for free, and it sounded like that for the first 12 months, then for the next six months (or more) I got email after email telling me that I would "loose my domain forever" if I didn't pay up quick. Lucky for me I went in assuming that this would be the case, so no great harm was done - your case is slightly different.

If you can actually establish contact, you could offer to pay for all the registration costs for the domain. The other alternative is to start from scratch again (remember ... If you build it, they will come). It's worked for me, and if your site is good, word will get around

Anyway, did you catch my first post on this thread ?? are you out of danger from the fires ? Which suburb are you in (I'm after a good place to take some photo's, but don't post your exact address on here). If you have a map (or know Sydney a bit) I'm close to Chatswood.

I used namezero for one domain (my very first actually), they handed it over to me for $4.99 I think, which was pretty cheap 2 years ago when I did it.

I have emailed them back again for about the 7th time asking to be able to get my files back from there website. I belive Richard was able to do this with his account. Richard did they say any thing to you as to why they just stoped hosting ? Have you been able to get your website back ? maybe your domain or did you get your site for free as I remember 121 giving free sites and domains names to ASP developers for free where you one of them lucky guys ?

laser, I live a few km's from chatswood in the Suburb called St.Ives righty next to bush. Today we have lots of smoke I might walk in to the bush land and up a small hill where you stand you are on a cliff top and you can see for miles you can see to chatswood, I know last week in Waitara you could see the fire. Homebush last week had alot of small fires. If you are going to take some pic's just be carefull I know back in the UK there where some fires one year we where Camping near them a reporter went in to take some pic's he was so in to taking the fires that he had not seen that the fire had jumped round him and he got got in it. he got some nasty burns from that experience and leart a few lesson to never underestimate the power of fire

I had my own domain that I got from godaddy.com, so I didn't need to "get my domain back". I only had a few files on the site, they e-mailed me the ftp address and provided me with a username/password to login with so I could download the files.

Happy News I got a email back from did not have any thing in it but a user name and password I dont know how long the site will be up but I am backing up every thing ASAP :-)

If you have not used 121host you should not have made any comment about us as we have been providing excellent service for our clients.

Why we stopped Windows Hosting? because we can't find a company/provider to fix hardware problem within 2-4 hours as a result we decided to stop hosting for Windows. We had hard drive problem but all data was on a back-up drive and no data was lost and it took our provider 12 hours to replace the main drive which is not acceptable by us and our client.

We will continue to host Unix.

SimonT your domain can be transferred into your name without any problem and you did suggest to us to sell our clients to someone you know which we refused as we are not in the business of selling our client. We could have made a lot of money of we decided to sell our clients to another provider.

121, I'm not going to start a flame-war here, but the notification to Simon sounds a bit shoddy - I hope all the other Windows clients got better service. I will congratulate you on posting here, and getting the data and domain to Simon. It does show a better customer service attitude. You should also update your website to reflect your new "no Windows" service.

Simon, congrat's !!!! ... date & domain, you're now back in business !

We don't have 10 clients to inform them within minutes. We have over 500 Windows clients and some of them had no problem such as Richard Kinser free account.


1- Domain transfer will take sometime but we can change the DNS within minutes of receiving your request.

2- If you have paid for a year and due for refund you will receive refund but give us time to sort all accounts.

Almost all Windows accounts are back online but will be terminated within the next 7 days (or more).

We don't have time to update our Webstie and it will be updated as soon as we have time for it.

121, you must be crazy. Don't tell me you are going to terminate 500 paying customers within 7 days. If SimonT is not in a postition to comment on your service I will. You have basically given me a good 6 months of service out of my year and a half I have had my site with you. The rest was torture. But I still said I would stick with you. Here I am looking forward to a next 8 months of good service that I have left, so I could just erase the memories of how much time it took me to get anything correctly done out of my hosts. Unfortunatly, it seems those memories are there to stay.

There is nothing you can say that can make me have pity on you for what you are doing. This only shows that you don't care about your customers. I can only imagine what 500 upset customers would do to your business.

I'm not going to say anymore. Not on the forums here anyway. If you would like to alert me, one of your paying customers for a year and a half going to 2, that you are discontinuing the service I paid you for, I will look forward to an email from you. Otherwise, I can say I was not alerted by my host of the service I paid for, being discontinued.

I ask, for your sake, that you don't post here anymore, because you don't have a good reputation here at the forums. You have disappointed the majority of us.

1- When was the server down where your account is hosted? I am sure you can't remember.

2- Your account only had one problem which was over 6 months because our provider was worse than the current one and was never our fault and you do know that.

3- We have provided you with excellent service and if you think you can find better for what you are paying think again.

4- You are free to post whatever you like in this forum.
5- no provider will ever give you the support which you had from us.

another bold statement like #3, I'm 100% positive there are other providers that provide better support, that is unless you've compared yourself to the thousands of other providers out there.

I am sure there are other provider provide better support but what you seem to forget is that you have to pay more for hosting and that was my point. ;)

We do have customers paying over $50 per month but those account will not be terminated but will be moved to a UK server within the next 2 weeks.
