I first started useing my Snitz forum back in early 2000 at that time I used a free host but every few weeks I would have to change hosts as either they would be to slow or would have to much down time. I then decided to buy a domain and get some real hosting as realy wanted to learn ASP and wanted my site to be come stable and usefull. I purchased my domain with my host eg buy a years worth of hosting get a free domain. I purcased this for a company called 121host.co.uk I set up the forum and sat back and watched my website take shape. My website was for the gaming community of Delta force. I watched as I built up our members and forums the site at the middel of last year was getting over 150 uneque hits a day. With over 200 active members we had a real place to share our intrests we even got to members together. The members ages ranged from 13 to 65 so we had all types of topic's we where able to come together and work as a community and work out each others problems and issues. I modded the forum with lost of custom mod's and added lost of other applications to the site. About 6 months ago I left the UK for Sydney and the site became my pathway to keep in touch with my UK friends and family . 2 weeks ago the forum went down I could not access the site of by FTP I emailed support losts of times but got nothing back, After I looked all over there site I tracked down one of the other websites and found this message. We are no longer providing Windows Hosting. Please contact 121Host for your username and password to backup your data.
At this time I am feeling very lost alone I am here in Sydney by my self with the bush fires just out side my door I realy want to get back my website and be able to talk to my family and friends but as you can see I seem to be hitting a brick wall.
Does any one have any ideas I have looked for contact numbers for this company but found nothing. I know a few other use to use 121host and maybe in the same boat as me and we might be able to get some thing back from this comapnay I know I have 8 months left hosting with them and near 2 years of work with them. I just want my website and domain back its not much to ask. I am not sure if I sould be speaking with fair trading or mybe my Local MP about this issue. If any one has any ideas on what I can do I would relay appreciate it.
Sorry if this is far to off topic for this site I just know in the past you guys have helped me out before..

.. you must live close to me, although I'm a few k's from the fires. But don't feel lonely !!
Getting the data back back is the hard bit, setting up a new site is relatively easy (compared to getting your data back). I can't help much on the retrieval side, and you might actually loose your domain, but let me know if you need a hoster or just a chat |

I dont think 121host has ever had a phone number for you to contact. It still says that 121host still offers NT Hosting (http://www.121host.net/windows.htm) if you look them up in the WhoIs you will see there UK phone number...

Hey, you're just unlucky to have found these guys. I bet noone could expect such an unbelievably unprofessional behavior from a host, but I guess we get surprises everyday. Anyway no need to feel lost. Hopefully they'll get back to ya soon enough for you to have your data back (be sure to backup next time) and you can find a new and certainly much trustworthier host . |

Try this:
http://www.archive.org/
They have my site and it's forum, or they would if not for my robots.txt blocking link.asp, and they might have something you are looking for..

I saw some pictures of the fires on tv today, they looked pretty strong. We have lots of fires here in the Los Angeles area every year too and I can sympathize. The mountainside behind my house has burned up twice since I've lived here. One fire was coming in to town, and an aerial tanker was dropping slurry on both sides of a main road around our lake.
The truly crazy was the hang-glider flying out over one of the fires :)

I feel for you SimonT, my own personal experiences with that company are what pushed me into going out and just doing it myself instead.
If theres anyone completely stuck and desperately needing a host thats been 'kicked' out by 121host, then I may be able to provide you with some temporary free hosting while you look for a more permanent host. |

Gremlin, Thank you for your kind act of generosity for the rejected users of 121 but untill I can get my domain back and my database back I just dont feel that I want to go on with a forum. Because my domain for a community beacon for Delta force group with out acess to the member list I can not contact the members to let the know of the problems and with out the domain then the users can not find there way back to the site.
I now must try and set my focus on this task first then look at rebuilding the site. But I think that this will be the hard part. |

I've had to do this once before .... a lot of communication to the registrar, proving who you are. The problem you might have is with a free domain, is it registered in your name or theirs ? |

Well you haven't lost the domain per-se have you ?, you've only potentially lost the data stored at 121host. All you need to do is inform your registrar of the new IP details once you've found a new home for it. |
