Great forum! Great software! Now I all I need to do is make it so the member's addy doesn't show up in their profile, or when someone sends them a message (just like on this site).
Which brings me to my question! Is this site using a mod to achieve this feature, and if so, which particular mod is it?
Also, would I be correct in assuming that this site is using the 'Email Validation' mod for registration? (another great feature!)
Thanks guys mark d

The changes we made to the code to hide user's e-mail address is from this topic:
http://forum.snitz.com/forum/topic.asp?ARCHIVE=true&TOPIC_ID=6759
And yes, we are using the E-Mail Validation MOD on this site to cut down on SPAM posters. (we use the Flood Control MOD on this site as well).
All 3 of these features will be standard features in our next version that we are working on now. |

Thanks Richard. You guys are doing a fantastic job!
I will try to implement all three, hopefully without stuffing up. (I'll keep backups of course!)
Thanks again and good luck with the next version! mark d

Can you give us an idea of when the new version will be available ???

This is still unknown as some developers are still bug testing. I'm sure that as soon as version 3.4 is released you'll read about it in the Announcements forum and of course this forum will get questions on how to's with the new version.

I saw a topic on how to modify the sender address so that the email comes from Forums @ XYZ.com rather than the actual sender email address (this allows you to keep your email private).
It would be even better if Snitz saved the email message into a table. You could then use Snitz to archive and track messages from other Snitz members.
You could pull up all email messages back and forth between you and another member (kind of a 1 on 1 forum).

All e-mail sent from within the forum used to be from the E-Mail address that was specified in the E-Mail Configuration screen. But it was changed some time ago. |

HI.
Having started the beta testing on my copy of the current version (basically, ithe beta testing's to make sure I've got it set up correctly, and to adjust the 'look and feel' until it's right!), I'm looking at preventing others from seeing member e-mail addresses as well. Since I know naff-all about ASP (at the moment!), can I assume that all I need do is just drop in the new scripts (including the config.asp) file in, modify the config file to match the server config already present, upload it, and that's that, or is it a little more complex? The reason I ask, is that documentation for the mod appears to be zero!

It's not a simple "overwriting" job when you install a MOD. It can be if it's your first MOD and you can trust the MOD author to have used 100% new files when (s)he installed the MOD there, but you should do what the readme.txt files that come with the MODs say: copy the codes from the example files and paste them into your own files.
Reason: you might be able to successfully overwrite your own files with those from the MOD, but you can't do that a second time so you'd just as well get used to the process of installing MODs

Wunderbar.
(sigh). Looks like I'll be grappling with the intricasies of ASP a darn sight faster than I wanted, then.
OK, thanks.

Its actually more of your ability to follow directions than your ability with ASP.
If you follow step by step the readme... then you should have no problems.
Of course, knowing some ASP does help since it gives you some context to what you are looking at.

Gotcha.
Well, FWIW, the hide e-mail mod installed, and required zero in the way of setup; probably because it's the first mod I've installed!
Helps when it happens this way - it increases my confidence in the software!
All I need do now, is follow the instructions on any further mods I might wish to install, I guess (assuming that they come with any - hide e-mail didn't!).
Thanks for the pointers, folks - it's appreciated!

Yes, this MOD does allow your members to choose whether or not they wish to hide their e-mail address. Excisting members can set it to hide after you've installed the MOD by going to their profiles, new members can immediately set it to hide upon registration.
