Revision 1.1 is up - with the same link/same file name at:

The same but supposedly cleaner version is up at
http://www.geocities.com/tosakko2001/lang1041/Unicode1041R1.1.htm

Found a very nice editor, EmEditor 3.23, which fully supports unicode and others, and edited the text file in it. Far easier than NotePad. Fully support Global IME for input/edit JA, so this one really is nice to use. Also much easiler to see/check linebreaks...
EmEditor is downloadable (981K) from any of the download sites, so if interested, perhaps, should check and try as an editor.

Hi Bozden,

If you are reading this thread, I think that the Post V40B03 thread http://forum.snitz.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=16673 needs a bump.

To everyone else, I'm incorporating the b4b3 patch 001 changes as outlined in the link above. I'll update to the patch 002 changes when the patch 002 comes out. Will post when I'm done.

Hi Folks,

1. - I've updated to the lang1041.asp file to the v4b3 patch 001 version status.

2. - I've returned the ASP delimters <% %> into the lang1041_R1 file. My guess is that they were lost in the various file conversions.

3. - I've also corrected the commented out text, line break problems and returned the line breaks to that found in the original lang1033.asp file. It should be "clean" now.

4. - I've also removed several unnecessary line breaks that appeared in commented out English in the lang1041_R1 file. I think we should be especially careful with this. IIS servers could interpret the text in these faulty line breaks as vbscript.

ex -
What should be this on a single unbroken line
strLangDown00xx = "translated Japanese text" '"Commented out original English as it appears in the lang1041.asp file"

Could cause problems when unnecessary line breaks appear in the comments. In this case the blue text could be interpreted as vbscript.

strLangDown00xx = "translated Japanese text" '"Commented out original
English as it appears in the lang1041.asp file"

5. - I've also repaired the missing English comments that were noted by LeoRat.

That's it for my changes. I'd like to email the changes to LeoRat for posting. LeoRat, please respond to the email I sent you so I can forward the file to you. Snitz cloaks the email address you entered into the system.

I would use the site I posted to original translation on, but it's a throw away Yahoo! account that I've lost the password too.

Aldeberan,

There are also line break problems in this one as far as I can tell. I'm emailing you my latest revisions.

Very basic but a question for you: When I save R1.0 file as R1.1, for example, it all collapse linebreaking in the source. To retain the linkebreaks/alignment in a copy from R1.0 to R1.1, what would be the best way? Use <br>??????

LeoRat

Thanks.

Hi LeoRat,

I seems you were not saving the file in plain text. Because we are dealing with vbscript code, this file should be edited in plain text using Notepad or FrontPage in HTML mode. Thus no html linebreak like this one <br> should be used.

Hi Dixon,

Just to let you know, I hate FrontPage with a passion. It's one application where I could never trust what it was doing. I'm always wondering what strange non-standard code it's going to put in whatever it was I wanted to create with it.

I did the original translation with MS VisualInterdev. The only problem is that the application is a dinosaur and badly in need of an update. Don't know if it will handle unicode either.

Ken

Hi seahorse,

If you use FrontPage 2002 then you don't need to worry the program modifies your code behind you. With the other FP 98/2000 version, if you know how to handle them you still can use them with minimum problem but with a lot of ease for creating Unicode web pages. MS VisualInterdev 6 does handle Unicode but can't compete with either FP 98 or FP 2000 let alone FP 2002. With the last package you can read the language as is when using UTF-8 which currently you can't find in any other Wysiwyg HTML Editor products on the market.

Hi seahorse,

2. The script code block pair <% %> were intentionally omitted to make the page using UTF-8 to display Japanese characters properly instead of a blank white page in the browsers. Now when the translation is done we can put them back accordingly as you have done. But one thing need to be aware of: you need to save the page in Notepad 2000 using Unicode UTF-8.

Best regards

Here is Seahorse's R1.2 asp file.

Dixon - thanks for all the notes. I need to think of buying FP2002.

Attaching here is a slightly revised R1.2 with following changes:
1. Amended existing linebreaks (approx 20 or so in R1.2)
2. Translated previously untouched ones "subscribe" and "hello" but didn't touch any others.
3. Removed some remaining English phrases in the Japanese translated field.

As for any new items for translation (as I noticed some colors are remaining in English in both source and target texts, need to determine whether they would require "translation" or leave them as they are.

Please check the below revision R1.2A:

HI Dixon,

Thanks for the heads up, but I think I'll stick to VID 6. ASP is more a priority for me than unicode handling ability so I think that makes it a better choice for me.

I looked at FrontPage back when it was FrontPage 97, but hated the way it changed things to what it thought things should be done. I haven't looked back since. I've looked at other WYSIWYG editors like Dreamweaver, etc. but I've always gone back to text editors like HomeSite or to VID.

Hi LeoRat,

I've taken a look at the file and things are looking pretty good. You do good work. I wish you could have been here earlier to help.

I was inclined to leave the colors in English, but it seems kind of lazy now that you mention it. Let me know if you'd like me to pick up where you left off.

Hi Seahorse,
Go ahead. Later, I will re-visit R1.2A to check some of the expressions that I wasn't sure before - like Table Dropping, etc. and others - which I am still not sure of the best Japanese wordings....

Assume that you checked R1.2A and if it looked ok, then, I will continue to use this newly found editor, EmEditor 3.23, which seems to work much better.

Some unclear ones:
strLangDown00110 = "*%s1% ŒfŽ¦”Β" '"Stop the board" or "Start the board"

strLangPop_Mail00120 = "*At: %s1%" '"At: %s1%"
strLangPop_Open00140 = "*Un-Lock Member" '"Un-Lock Member"
strLangSubscription_List00020 = "*<B>All Members</B>‚Μ’θŠϊw“Η" '"Subscriptions for <B>All Members</B>"

Down00110 -Japanese vs English not clear
Pop_Mail00120 - not clear of what %s1% is thus how to word AT:
Subscription_List00020 - should translate All Members???

Hi LeoRat,

I wasn't sure how to translate those either! That's why I left them like that. I don't know what to tell you. I tried to trans late someof them and couldn't figure out an appropriate translation and left them half translated. It's not good, I know, but that'S how it turned out.
