I've had a Snitz forum connected to my web site for about 4 years. Love it!

I've been trying to find a way to add a search function (like the one here at Snitz) to my web site so visitors can search for specific names, etc. Every place I've found on the internet either wants to charge me for the service or put ads all over my pages. My web host says they might be able to provide one, but it'll cost extra.

Is there any way for me to add a search function to my web site? At no cost?

Thanks-
Nina

Use google. If they are currently indexing your site, you can add a google search box to search your site.<

Hey Ruirib...... nice speaking with you again.

I checked out google. They want to run ads on my web site pages for a free search function, otherwise they charge $100 a year for it.

Hi :).

Check this: http://www.askdavetaylor.com/how_can_i_add_a_google_search_box_to_my_web_site.html

If you run a non-profit site, you can have no ads without any cost. Even with the ads, they just show on the search result pages.<

I did a search at SourceForge.net for "site search" and it came up with this results page: http://sourceforge.net/search/?words=%22site+search%22&sort=score&sortdir=desc&offset=10&type_of_search=soft&pmode=0

This one may be of interest to you: http://sourceforge.net/projects/tipue/<

Thanks, guys.

I guess I'll go with the google search function. My visitors will just have to deal with the ads.

If you have a look down the left hand side at the following sites:

http://www.sportsfish.com.au/
http://www.ausbream.com/
http://www.escapewithet.com/

You will see a search box that will give you the option to search the site, archives or the forums. I have created a page that searches out side of the forum and I also use the forums search function to search from the one location.

If interested, I may be able to package it up for you, and it is free and no adds. The search looks at all the text on the page and returns the Title for the page name and the description as the comments of the page for the pages outside of the forum.<

Cheers,

David Greening

I use Master.com. No ads and it works great.

I have it in use on my site. You can check it out to see how it looks.

My search page is here. You can search for a term such as trumpet to see the results.<
