Wow, great job guys. Can you by any change post a "How to.." message?

I try to run a studentassociation website for a dutch university and this sub-forum mod would be ideaal to futher specify what course they are talking about (would be: category (Teaching), forum (1st year, 2nd year etc), sub-forum (course 1, course 2 etc), message)<

hi florismark,
best thing is to go through this whole topic... you will find all the links to files and explanations on how to get around bugs. if you can't get around them post your prob in here and we'll try to help you. the prob with this mod is that it still is not finnished and though it works for some forums without probs, i for example had a lots of probs to get it running the way it should. so unfortunately at the moment nobody can give you an exact 'how to...' for this mod.

Hi,
I'm going to try to implement this mod starting from page 3, I hope that works because the links on the first couple of pages are dead.<

yes, that's ok, as far I've seen, you only need to start where sr_erick posted the link where to download the subforum... (around 16th sept)<

Somewhere around here I've got an updated version of subforums.asp and a few other changes. For whatever reason I put them in a different topic (all I can say is it made sense at the time).

If you have problems, post them here. <

Owkey, I've been playing with this sub-forum mod and followed a couple of instructions. I've implemented the first code sr_erick gave within his zip file. This went all reasonbly owkee, untill I tried to edit a forum. It gave an error (have't gotten to e-mailing my provider to turn the advanced error messages on sadly), but this error was solved replacing the code with Elpazzo's solution on page 4. However, when I want to edit or make a new forum, it only shows the first 2 boxes (screen size and parent location)...

Sounds familiar? Do you know any solutions? I still have the old forum running so am happy to experiment till it works.<

Owkee I have tried multiple things lastnight. It only stopped me from sleeping, but it still does not work. Some txt files for the people who like to see if they can fix it.

Is there a link to the forum? as well as a testing account? or a link to a screen shot?

I'm assuming this is the same problem mentioned above...<

I have got a screenshot, http://www.froude.tudelft.nl/scrn1.jpg A testing account, that needs to be administrator I quess???

It still doesn't seem to be working properly, because the dropdown box after 'parent location' show the category, not the forum. See the screenshot. I'll be trying to get it working tonight.<

Based on the screenshot, either there is a lot of table code that was deleted/overwritten by accident or something is being closed prematurely.

The testing account would need to be an admin since only an admin can add new forums. If you want, send it to me via email (the one in my profile is current) and I will take a look at it tonight when I get home (probably around 9:30ish EST - about 6hrs give or take).

Keep plaing around, just make sure you've always got a valid backup just in case... <

It seems that there is a problem in the following 2 lines of code:

strSQL = "SELECT F_PARENT FROM FORUM_FORUM WHERE FORUM_ID = " & strRqForumID & " LIMIT 1;"
set rsFindSub = my_Conn.Execute(strSQL)

In the old post.asp the connection string is the following:

strSql = strSql & " ORDER BY CAT_ORDER, CAT_NAME ASC;"

set rsCat = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Recordset")
rsCat.open strSql, my_Conn, adOpenForwardOnly, adLockReadOnly, adCmdText.

I've tried a variation of this, but it doesn't seem to work.<
