Has any one set up Snitz forums using Filemaker Pro 5. If so how did you get on?

heay, it was a valid question (maybe that shows I don't know anything about Filemaker Pro), but no: nobody has tried before, no plans to support it either as you might have guessed by the previous two responses.

I have a very strong opinion about Filemaker Pro. My company uses it a lot throughout the editorial staffs here, because it's "easy" for non-techie people to use. Then it's up to us techie people to work with their Filemaker databases and get that stuff online.

If you ever had to work with a Mac Server, Lasso & Filemaker 3 - even though IIS, ASP and Access was available - you'd understand!! The stuff is okay, but it just seems so....I can't think of a decent word for it. If that's the only option, fine, but there are plenty of other options/packages I would consider!! Especially considering that on the new mac os x server you can run PHP.

Enough of my ranting... sorry...

I have heard these words many times, but "Access" was substituted for "Filemaker"

I was only trying to ascertain the reason for wanting to choose Filemaker, I could have said all those other things too, but that is not our place really.

I am not entirely sure whether it would be possible, I know it supports ODBC, but what degree of SQL it would accept, I have no idea.

Rather than give yourself endless nightmares, I'm sure access,MySQL or MS SQL would be a better choice.

Thanks all. Its not that I have chosen to use it, its just that our current data is stored in a filemaker pro 5 database and it seems logical to use it rather than set up a new one in another program. Doesn't it?
regards.

It really depends what your data is for, and how you want users to interact with it, however you will probably find greater flexibilty by importing your data into access or SQL.
