                      | Version 4 now available: http://www.paddla.space2u.com/subscription_mod_4.zip

 BRIEF DESCRIPTION

 It is possible to subscribe on:
 * Topic
 * Forum
 * Category
 * "Everything"

 When you check a checkbox, you subscribe to the corresponding forum, topic etc. To unsubscribe, simply uncheck the checkbox. When someone replies to a topic or posts a new topic, the subscribers get an email which contains the text and an URL to the topic.

 The admin interface makes it possible to switch subscription on/off on different forums, categories etc. The admin interface also makes it possible to configure how many email adresses that shall be put on the "to" of each email. For example, for emailing 1000 members, we can send 10 email, each containing 100 email adresses in the "to" of the email.

 NEWS COMPARED TO MOD VERSION 3

 1) Subscription on category.
 2) Subscription on "everything".
 3) Admin interface makes it possible to switch subscription on/off for every forum, category etc.

                      | I must admit that I haven't been following this, but now that I see your posting Version 4 so soon, curiousity got the best of me.
 This looks very interesting. This may sound like a dumb question, but is version 4 the one to go with? Do you have more improvements in the works? (Not that it's going to deter me from adding this in.)

 Yes, you have a different forum.

 My forum is not based on HuwR's SR4 release. It is based on the current official Snitz version (Snitz Forums 2000 v3.1 SR4 with Setup-Fix), avalible for download here:
 http://forum.snitz.com/archive/default.asp?catid=12

 I thought it was no meaning implementing this MOD in anything else than the latest official release.

 I tried to modify the files you sent me (they differed quite a lot from the official Snitz release), but I understand that they don't work for you.

 Has anybody implemented this MOD on anything else than the official Snitz relese?

 You don't have to remove anything from Snitz. My MOD works in cooperation with the "Check here to be notified" functionality. My MOD checks that if someone has both subscription and notify, he will only get one email (the subscription email).

                      | I have it going at my site with out any problems. I must admit that I did with version 2, but 4 works great. It went in first time and I am only using Snitz Forums 2000 Version 3.1 SR4 with a few mods in.

                      | I'm using Huwr's version... I love his version of the code because I feel it's cleaner (Images in a images directory) etc...

 I'll get this running on his version and post the changes needed to
 make it work with his code.

 Please post any problems here in this forum. Try to be as specific as possible. I'll do my best to help you getting this mod working on Huwr's version.

 Version 4 is definitely the one to go with! I haven't started working on version 5 yet. That's because I havent't decided what version 5 should include. Any suggestions?

 With version 4 the admin can choose wich forums that shall be possible to subscribe to. If you have a forum with thousands of members, maybe you don't want to switch on subscription for everything. You can e.g. switch on subscription for only locked forums. This is a perfect way of implementing a newsletter that will be distributed by email. Since it is a locked forum, only admin can write to it, but all memebers can read the newsletter and automatically get it by email.

 Some thoughts of further improvements on this mod:

 Admin interface for viewing/modifying all member subscriptions. What should the interface look like?
 Member interface for viewing/modifying all own subscriptions and "notify me be email". What should the interface look like?
 Forcing moderators to subscribe to their forums.
 Forcing members to subscribe to a newsletter forum.
 Comments, anyone?

 Interesting feature.

 But how shall it be implemented? I run my forum on a Linux server. I could set up a cron job to be executed daily. This cron job could send out the digest email to the "digest subscribers".

 Does anyone have an idea of how to make a platform independent solution?

                      | I have found a bug
 There is a discussion about auto email notification when a topic is moved. When I read the discussion, I realized that my subscription database table is not updated when a topic is moved

 I will fix this in version 5. Please inform me if you find any other bugs.

 Good opinion. Up 'til now, every new version has had new functionality. But I will wait some time before releasing version 5 (with loads of new functionality of course, not only bug fixes), since I feel the basic functionality is at place now. I will not start working on version 5 until I have received suggestions of what new functionality is needed.

 What I will do is just add bug fixes to version 4. I will post the bug fix code here, as well as replacing the download zip file.
