One important thing to note is the MVC version will ONLY support MS SQL out of the box, with hopefully MySQL support following. I do not intend on supporting Access databases

This is great news.
I have been running a modestly busy forum for the last 3 years using snitz 3.4.07 without a hitch. I am slightly concerned at the dated look of the forum but then I also think that there is something retro-cool about it too. A lot of my forum members would have reason to visit another much more modern looking forum that's both not as fast to load and is also as buggy as hell.
The snitz forum we have is not the prettiest but does its main job of keeping everyone in touch with one another very efficiently and with zero down time.
Also the medium isn't getting in the way of the message the way it seems to on other forums where everyone seems to have big signatures (some even containing images) amongst other distractions from the message.
We are using an Access database as the backend but moving to sql server won't be a big ordeal I don't suppose.
At the same time there is something to be said for the simplicity of a file based database and I was wondering if you had considered sqlite as an alternative to Access?
That's just a bye the bye. I am looking forward to seeing the .net version and am keen to try it out whenever you have something ready.

There is a beta version available to download, it is pretty stable and supports all the standard classic functionality plus a couple of mods. It is currently only good for SQL Server or SQL express.

If you check out this topic there are links to download the published code http://forum.snitz.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=71048
You need to download both zip files as one is just an update.

You can view the mvc version of this site using http://forum.snitz.com/mvc

Funnily enough I was looking at SQLLite the other day as it is supported by windows 10 IOT and was considering playing with it on my Raspberry pi, so will have to see

The new pi 3 is pretty cool much improved over the pi 2 and onboard wifi means you don't need to share the net connection with the usb bus so all around much snappier, they are great for media servers etc. I was going to try hosting a .net site on the pi 3 on windows 10. not sure it has enough ram to run a full blown forum, but I'm gonna give it a whirl see what happens

Preliminary test would indicate that SQLite should work fine as the backend, however would probably require a separate release of the datamodel due to different assembly references etc. When I get a bit more time I will look into it and see what I need to do to support it.

Torborg, just like in the old days, I would be glad to assist you in customizing your forum, using the .Net version.

So we'll be able to get some mods converted to the new version.

I tried to email you Davio. Can you contact me?
