Does anyone know if there's a chat program compatible with Snitz and it works good with Snitz?
I've installed the Flash Chat and while it does work, it's just really blah for this century. LOL
I installed the Snitz Chat and was going to customize it with prettier smilies, colors to match my forum, etc. as it seemed so easy! But before I could even get started with the customizing I started getting a lot of errors. I never could even get it to send a message! All of the other buttons worked fine, but the send button did nothing!
I did a search on the Snitz Chat and to be honest, it was a bit confusing as to whether any of the problems with the Snitz Chat were ever resolved or at least I couldn't find any solutions.
Anyway, just thought I'd ask if there's anything stable out there that's pretty easy to integrate into Snitz.

Well, I guess no one knows of a chat program compatible with Snitz.
So, does anyone know if there's a way to customize the Flash Chat? For starters, can I change the neon blue to something easier on the eyes! (lol)

Oh my! Does that also apply to a secure website?

It has nothing to do with secure websites. If code has a security hole, whether you use https or not won't make any difference. |

I must say that Chat is the most simple think on this days, and witch so many chat services that provide a browser interface, why not take that into account?
Once I did this:

ending up in a chat window like this:

and it will uses the member username to signin into an IRC chat, given the geek ones a way to login even outside the Snitz Forum, or you can easily set a channel password and only the forum users will know.
I used the great and simple http://www.mibbit.com/ services and it's great, but why having a chat in a forum? that will completely break the ambiance and the propose of a Forum, that is why I never made it publicly to all members, it's a simple way to talk between moderators, witch turns out to be a fiasco as well as we talk through messages in Email or Facebook / Facebook Chat.
First things first... Why do you need a Chat in a Forum?

I literally hate the idea of a chat room! I would never use it! Like you, I don't see a need for one! But, the members are literally BEGGING for one!!! I don't know WHY, but they simply LOVE it!!!
But, the members are all into the music, the artists/groups and their singing and at times have actually persuaded some artists to do a scheduled chat on other websites! Now, that is COOL! :)
So, is this something you have the script for and it's easily integrated with Snitz? Be still my heart!! (lol)

It's a simple SNITZ page (just copy one that you already have, for example "topic.asp"), remove all the "topic" part and put the mibbit code that you get from setting up their widget.
In IRC, register a channel to the server you have chosen and set a password if you want. |

I am really not wanting to have to pay for any services just so the members can do the chat. (lol) But I will check this out. It definitely looks simple enough. Thank you so much!

I would be concerned about the ads with my website being secure and also a Christian-based website.

You are so kind, Leather Lips, and I greatly appreciate your efforts here!! I, too, am currently busy but will check back later.
Thank you again as well, balexandre!

I don't have the original instructions. I am looking through my files to see what should be changed. These should work. If not, post any issues you have and I'll help you out.
After downloading and unzipping the file, upload the folder named chat to your forums directory. Note that after unzipping the folder there are two folders named chat. You only need to upload the chat folder inside the first chat folder. If that doesn't make sense let my know and I'll try to explain it better.
1. Open inc_header.asp Look for: if (mlev = 4) or (lcase(strNoCookies) = "1") then
ABOVE that add:
'###Chat### KCname=strDBNTUserName '###Chat###
2. Look for: if strGroupCategories = "1" then
ABOVE that add:
'###Include file for Chat### %><!--#INCLUDE FILE="chat/inc_chat.asp" --><br /><br /><% '###Chat File Above###
3. Now it is time to edit the files in the chat folder. Open the file named chat.asp
On line 58 change YOUR FORUM NAME HERE to your forum name.
4. Open chatroom.asp
On line 18 change YOUR FORUM NAME HERE to your forum name.
On line 77 change YOUR FORUM NAME HERE to your forum name.
5. Open default.asp
On line 16 change YOUR FORUM NAME HERE to your forum name.
6. Open inc_chat.asp
On line 1 change www.YOUR-WEB-ADDRESS-HERE.com to your web address. Make sure the rest of the URL on that line points to your chat folder. It is assuming you put your Snitz files in a folder named forum. If you have a different name you will need to change the word forum to your folder name as well.
7. Open a file named functions_chat.asp inside of the functions folder
On line 2, change the word password to your own secret password. This password is to be able to use the administrative features of the chat files.
That's about it. You can change the color scheme of the chat window by editing the style.css file in the includes folder.
There may be a few more things but this should get you going. |
