I'm surprised that it has CDONTS and not CDOSYS - you may want to ask your host about that as CDOSYS is the newer component. Having said that, by having "chilicdonts" as an option it sounds like you're using Sun Chili!Soft ASP (or whatever the hell there calling it this week - its been re-branded I don't know how many times) to run the server, which is likely to cause some interesting issues all on its own.

So I guess the next question is what server are you running this on?

I am hosted at GoDaddy, just like Britinusa and Leatherlips are successfully doing. I would like to understand how they both are pulling off what I can't seem to wrap my mind around.

The more I am reading, the more it supports the fact that CDOSYS is the way to go. I am not stubbornly against doing something different that does work. I just don't seem to have CDOSYS in my arsenal of available tools.

It may be that they are on a Windows hosting plan, where you may be on a Linux hosting plan. But I'm just guessing based on the presence of "chilicdonts". That's why I asked what server you are running on.

I am on a windoze server. I was told on no uncertain terms that a Linux server wouldn't work with ASP.

The problem currently is that I have spoken with so many different people at GoDaddy, who have told me so many different conflicting stories.....One tells me that I have to authenticate, and another one says no. I no longer considering GoDaddy a reliable source of usable information.

BTW, I am able to send and receive e-mail from the admin e-mail address via the GoDaddy server control center.....The address works both ways, it is the forum that is not connecting to the outgoing server.

Interesting. Just running through my thought process here...

On any reasonably modern Windows server you should have CDOSYS available as that was "the" component to use starting somewhere around Windows 2000 if I remember right. From looking back, Britinusa and Leatherlips are both using CDOSYS with their hosting packages, so you would think it was available given that you are with the same company. I'd say more, but discussions about hosting companies are not allowed here.

It may be that you have to ask them to enable it... I wouldn't think so, but stranger things have happened.

Also, the presence of ChiliCDONTS is confusing the hell out of me as you typically only see it on SunONE ASP (AKA Sun Chili!Soft ASP, AKA a ton of other names) and that is typically only used to run ASP/VBScript on non-windows servers. It seemed to be implied, but I couldn't see anything in the documentation, that you can run SunONE ASP on a Windows server... but why? IIS is worlds better at ASP/VBScript than SunONE... but that's a separate issue. And yes, if you're going to run ASP/VBScript you want to use a Windows server.

Obviously, its not helping that you're getting conflicting information from the people you talk to. As an aside, for purposes of this particular discussion, sending e-mail from the admin e-mail address has nothing to do with the forum sending e-mail. But I'm glad you've thought to check.

Is there a posted FAQ or Admin Guide on their site or in their Admin panel or something? I know with my host there's a large body of FAQs that have had sample code and all sorts of other information. While I think the only time I ever needed to call them was about some downtime last year, I have had a bit of a love/hate relationship with them. But that's a discussion for a different forum.

inside inc_mail.asp

I used this line with the variable set to 1 instead of 2.

Flds("http://schemas.microsoft.com/cdo/configuration/sendusing") = 1 'cdoSendUsingPickup (1) cdoSendUsingPort (2) cdoSendUsingExchange (3)

Also,

Godaddy only lets you email "From" an email using the domain where you are hosted. So the admin can't have a yahoo.com email account when hosting the forum on godaddy.
Create a redirect email address and things should work.

good Luck
