Hi,
My set up - I am using ASPMail and all seems to work ok. I go to my members lists and send a member an email and it arrives fine.
But if I subscribe to a forum and someone updates that forum I never receive an email. Neither do any of my colleagues on any of the forums we have set up.
I'm confused as when I look in the scripts of this software it appears that both processes use the same code?
Any ideas? Any ideas how I can get any error feedback so I can trace the problem?
I am a techie so you can hit me with the blunt facts. :-)
Thanks for any advice...

Check and make sure you've set up the subscriptions properly - http://www.forumco.com/articles/tutorials/subscriptions.html
Also, its worth noting that if you have a lot of forums set up to send e-mails you can seriously slow down your system. There are a couple of MODs on SnitzBitz.com that will change the system to only send one e-mail until they log in again, or you could look at setting up an RSS feed instead of subscriptions (my preferred option). There are RSS MODs up on SnitzBitz.com as well as floating around here.< |

thanks folks,
anonJr: I believe it's all set up as it should be and their is really very little load as I'm in testing and have only 5 internal users on the system at the moment.
podge: that's very interesting as the admin/moderator account is one of the accounts that has been posting to try and trigger an update to a topic. I'll look at that a bit closer and make sure that is not the issue.
thanks for the advice< |

Did a few test posts from various accounts and it would seem that we have a different problem.
Going back to my earlier post can, everything seems set up correctly AND direct mail through the members list works. So what are the differences in the direct mail and the subscription mails?
Is there some code I can run to fire the subscription mail process so I can see an error? How might I trace the problem here?
Oh and one other thing, if the option to subscribe is available can I assume it's set up correctly e.g. properly enabled for that forum?
Thanks

There are no differences between the emails. If normal email messages get through and subscriptions don't, that means subscription emails are not even being sent, so you have a subscriptions configuration problem. You need to have matching subscription levels at the board, category and forum levels, or it won't work.< |
