in the MEMBERS table there is 2 fields a M_NAME and M_USERNAME...

when the user, like me has

M_NAME = Bruno Alexandre
M_USERNAME = balexandre

WHY can't I be able to login with the balexandre, because that's my username... and why M_NAME does not support special characters like ç ã õ etc ...

if in M_NAME there is for example a user called Gonçalo the user can login, but soon he click in any link to a topic, it logs out automatically in a flash

can anyone please try to explain me the LOGIN function before I change the Login script in order to: if there is a string in M_USERNAME will login by the username and dont care about M_NAME, if not, use the M_NAME...

thank you all for any help

all explained then ... thxs Huw
but... how about special chars in the Name ? why does it let user login and after a click it logs out the user?

--

still, I think it would be nice to have different names, I will change topic.asp so it will show in parenthesis the Name, or invent something to let the user choose...

after finish, will post as a new MOD

there is no code in Snitz that would dissallow chars like ç ã õ so this may be a db or a codepage issue.

The SNitz db already has a name field that is not related to the username, that is what M_FIRSTNAME and M_LASTNAME are for, or alternatively you could change the M_TITLE field. M_NAME and M_USERNAME should be left for the purpose they are designed for, otherwise a future update may break your code.

my idea is just that Huw, use the name (first and last) to show in topics as well, because they always want to show their name instead os the username, and some, prefer the other way around.

So my idea is to place a drop down in the profile to let Users choose how they would like to be seen in messages/topics, by Username, or First name + Last name ...

I will then hange topic.asp Query to show either based on a new field in the MEMBERS table

just a simple mod
