To be on the safe side I'm moving .bkf backup files created with ntbackup to backup servers, but it's just dawned on me that I hadn't tried retrieving the content of these backups on the backup servers and sure enough, I can't see a way of adding an external .bkf file to the "Backup Utility"...
Am I missing something ? Or do I need a third party app to that ?
TIA |

Have not used NTBackup for quite a while now, but I think that if you use the restore wizard, you will be able to browse to the location where you have the files and use it to do a restore. |

You can also bypass the wizards and in the Restore section you can "add new catalog" to have a given backup file catalog available. You can install ntbackup on XP Home if you need to, the installer is on the windows CD but not installed with a normal XP Home installation.
And fwiw, ntbackup works fine to/from a samba share off a linux server. I have my windows machines doing automatic nt backups to linux fileservers.
