The reason I need to do this is the original author is no longer updating a list on the first post in a topic and someone else needs to be able to edit it to do so
I have changed the author ID in the database for that topic but it does not seem to reflect the changes in the topic itself
Why not just start a new topic and copy the content from the original post? It is very risky to start changing id:s ia a database, one mistake will create chaos ;)

All sorted now. Believe it or not the database I was changing was the back-up and not the main one (public one) as there had been a bit of confusion in the setting up of some links within an online control panel for the website resulting in only the back-ups being available in my browser
I do the same thing myself quite often, especially when coding spend hours cursing the thing because the bug you just spent two hours fixing still happens only to find I waas either editing the wrong code, or viewing the wrong version of the app
