 Birthday clear by default?

Is there any way to make the birthday cleared by default when people are registering and setting up a profile?

I've found that some people are not entering a birthdate, but then it defaults to 12, which shows their age as 12 on their profile, although they don't mean that to happen.

Is there a fix or mod for this?

Thanks!
Scott

I hope someone can come up with something, as I'm getting a ton of these also. There's going to be a ton of birthdays in January or whenever it's defaulting to. We also need some kind of script to run through and correct all the current entries.

I don't know about having it clear, but I seem to remember a different version of the date picker floating around... since I'm looking for it for the same reason, I'll let you guys know if I remember where it is.

I suspect its over on SnitzBitz...

We also have a crapload of 12 year old members. The picker is very picky.

It was a Davio text file with code.

I have found the file:

Thanks. I know I've seen something else floating around here, but that could just be due to too much blood in my caffeine system....

So what is this DOBinprofile mod supposed to do? Nothing in the text file gives a clue.

Just so's ye know, though, this is in no way a Snitz problem; the problem lies with the people who refuse to read or follow the simple instructions in the popup window.

I might semi-disagree with you on that. Snitz is behaving as programmed; and there are clear directions that if followed will let you do what is needed. Having said that, it should be ok for the average idiot to enter it in however they want since they won't read the instructions anyway.

But this is a design/user-interface argument that can go on 'till the second coming and never truly be resolved. I've become more aware of things like this since I've started studying interface design in an attempt to make the intranet site easier on the masses of not-so-technologically-inclined users that use it.

So while I wouldn't say its a Snitz problem in the sense that its a coding issue, I will say that its a Snitz problem in the sense that its a UI issue. But that is a seperate discussion...

Yeah, I had actually changed the pop-up window so that the instructions are displayed on top of the form, but still some people don't seem to follow them. I think it may be a case of laziness.

Thanks for info, guys! I appreciate the help.

Everything I've read on usability so far indicates that when it comes to the web, people don't read.

If you're interested in the reading I've done so far:
Take it for what its worth. We could work to make it idiot proof and a new type of idiot would appear. Having said that, we shouldn't stop trying.
