hi there,

been a snitz forum user for a few years, and have forums running on a few sites...

I have a problem that seems to have been getting worse and worse, and the forums are getting slower ans slower...

I have the latest version, running in access and the rest of the website is running relatively fast, just the forum that seems to be slow.

is there anythign I could look at or should I report it to my host?

Thanks for your commetns and advice.

Probably time to upgrade from Access. Archiving some posts and compacting the database may buy you some more time. Do it and if it does improve, consider an upgrade.

As you using MS Access it's essential to regularly compacy your databases.
One way is to download them and compact&repair using Access itself whilst a second is to use Table Editor that allows you to compact them online on the Host.

Upgrade path is either MS SQL Server (recommended, if possible) or MySQL.

Neither MySQL or MS SQL Server?!?

Sounds like it might be time to think of a new host. All the hosts I know of offer an upgrade path. Some charge extra, some don't. Even some of the free ones will let you upgrade - for a price.

MySQL is a possibily too. Personally I don't like it, but it works better than Access.

Table Editor 0.81
http://www.2enetworx.com/dev/projects/tableeditor.asp

For me it works really well as it enables you to exmaine all the tables on the remote Access Database and to compact & backup it. Also you can create your own SQL strings.

All things being equal, I'd rather have MS SQL Server too. But, if its not an option or if the disparity in cost is enough its definitely a viable option.

1 Mb of what?

I would advise you to either install Table Editor or shut down the forum, compact it using Access and upload it again to the forum.

That's nothing, 1 MB?!!! An empty database allocates more than that!

Just so I'm clear on something, is GBP a currency? I'm not quite as 'international' as I'd like to be at this point in time...
