Is anyone here running an iPod Nano? I broke down and ordered one today. First apple product I've ever owned. Hopefully it lives up to what I've been hearing. |

I'm a total Windows fan, but last year I bought a 40gb iPod. My only Apple product too. I love it and use it every day. You might want to search on iPod Nano and scratches. It seems they tend to scratch rather easily. |

The screen breaks real easy as well with the Nano's.. Big talk of it here in Australia.
I was going to get an iPOD, but not at the moment, I have a Mac notebook coming as I want to start testing my sites with Macs so I get a cross site feel for my sites and development.

I'm not an iPod user, but I've read numerous articles of people being fed up with iTunes. They love the iPod, but they hate the iTunes interface ánd store which is the only store they can use. I'm not sure if that's entirely correct, but that's what I read. |

I like to listen to my music simply on my PC, without a lot of setup or gadgets. I have a small surround sound system on it that sounds good.
Personally I really like iTunes. It blends each song into the next, pretty neat effect, and has terrific playlists capabilities.
I am not a user of items like Real Player or Winamp and suspect they have similar features. |

I agree with Cliff, I don't get the comments regarding iTunes. I use a PC exclusively and don't have an iPod, but I love iTunes. Hey maybe that's it... Apple-ites don't like it 'cause so many Windows users like it! |

The screen issue affected a very limited number of iPods. It was a vendor issue is what they were saying. http://www.engadget.com/entry/1234000100060785/ Apple is fixing these bad iPods or replacing them. As for iTunes, I don't plan on using it. There are other things out there you can use for windows and I never planned on buying music from iTunes in the first place OR using it to manage my music for the iPod. I'm going to first be trying out this product. http://www.redchairsoftware.com/anapod/ You can do a lot with the pay versions, but at least with the free version the iPod will show up as an attached mass storage device in windows explorer.

I just picked one up yesterday and I am not taking it out until my protector comes in this week. The thing is tiny, and for the price you can't complain! A Sandisk, i-river, etc.. 1GB Flash drive based MP3 player will run you $100+, so 4GB for $250 sounds good to me.
It took me a week to clean up my 50GB of MP3s' ID3 Tags to import into iTunes, and so far iTunes seems pretty cool. I used to use a simple file system structure to choose what I wanted to listen to, but the interface of iTunes seems pretty good. |

I've got a 40GB iPod, daughter has a 4GB Mini and my son has a 1GB Shuffle so I've had experience with all the others but not yet the Nano. The only nice thing about iTunes is that it is very good at keeping your music organized by renaming the files and moving them into artist/album directories. Other than that, I can't stand it.
As for the iPods, if I can keep them from wigging out and reseting, loosing ALL of their settings in the process, I'd be happy with them. Save yourself some grief and get some of those clear PDA screen protectors and slap it over the display the moment you take it out of the box. Works great, but I don't know what it would look like if you're trying to view photos on the color screen. For me, I got the 40GB to hold as much music as possible and it lives in the tank bag on my motorcycle so I never even look at the screen. |

Forgot to say, I tried Anapod and didn't care for it. iTunes works much better at just getting songs on them. If you don't want to use the iTunes Music Store, just rip or download into MP3, import into iTunes and you're good to go. As long as the tracks have ID3 tags, you don't even have to worry about organizing. |

I've not had the money to sink into an iPod yet (or any of its various relations). I do plan on watching the opinions here before I do though.
At this point in time I haven't had a need for a dedicated MP3 player as I'm usually in my office at work (where I use my laptop) or at home (where I use my media server). If I'm doing a long drive, I hook my PocketPC up to the car sterio via a casette adapter.
Maybe someday.... (though I'm saving for that 33in. flat-panel first ) |

Cool. You will have to let me know how that works. If it is good, I'll probably order it. |

I've got a mini. I'm not that big a music fan, but I've managed to fill 2 GB on my 4 GB mini. I'd get the bigger model if I were you.
I've been listening to quite a few podcasts using iTunes. Great stuff.
