I've been using GSNW (Gateway Services For Netware) for years to create mappings on some of my Windows servers to Netware servers. For the most part, it does the job, but 2 things bug me about it. It is a bottleneck and it can often at times disconnect (showing the shares as DELETED) for no rhyme or reason. So, my question is simple, are there any alternatives to using GSNW? I'd even consider a third party product if there was one. Some of you may tell me to just install the Netware client on the machine but that does not take care of my problem because in order to get my Netware mappings on the Windows box, I would have to actually log on (logging on and locking the workstation is not a valid workaround for me) to the machine.
Any thoughts? |

I don't know. Does Novell provide any windows interface software?
I really don't have a clue on this subject, I haven't done Novell since Netware 2.15

There's a feature that you can make Novell servers appear as Window volumes (or something like that). I am currently discussing this with the network team. They can be pretty anal about custom configurations of their servers at times.
I just can't believe that the only thing that is readily available for creating shares/mappings between Netware/Windows is GSNW which acts like a proxy account and is such a bottleneck which degrades performance and has stability issues.
2.15? that is a very, very, very long time ago ... we're running 6.5 right now. Novell also has "Linux Fever" lately pushing products like SUSE so it is truly a whole new world these days. |

You're telling me
In the 80's I was an "authorized novell reseller", then Novell decided to eliminate all us "small guys" who didn't have two employees, much less 2 CNE's and didn't have a storefront. That was the end of my interest in Novell, they terminated my reseller account and I immediately got into the windows NT beta program and Microsoft networking. I can't say that I've missed Novell :)
Sorry I can't be of any help.

No worries about not being able to help... it comes with the territory in this Microsoft dominated world of ours.
But hey.. you're really giving away how old you are |

Doug, you could regain your youth now, I go back to 2.0a, earned my master cne and quit at 4.1. And reading dayve's problem with a little interest, I'm glad I quit . Since Windows95, client mapping to NW servers has been a real big pain that I've actually decommissioned all Netware servers in favor of NT4 at the time.

Sadly, most Family Court Judges wrongfully reward opportunistic gold diggers that use our children unjustly as "instruments" of power.

Wow. That's all I can say. Wow.
I was required to take a few COBOL classes (minus the punch cards..), and two RPG classes (I hope I never see another AS/400 again). But I just graduated a year or two ago.
One day I'll be having this discussion, and talking of the good ol' days with VBScript and my first 486... one day. |
