I'm running v3.4.05 on an NT domain. It works great, and users are automatically registered but I have a problem with a couple of guest/generic accounts that I want to block, at least from posting.

When the user is locked, and they re-visit the forum, they are re-registered and logged in. (I checked the DB and the original locked user is there and a new record created for the second visit.)

On my search for a solution, I discovered the UserGroups mod, which looks ideal (then my guest account can read but not post), but the readme for it says it's only been tested using DB authentication and is for snitz 3.4.03.

Can anyone explain the behavoir of re-registering a locked user or point me in the direction of fixing it. My ASP's ok, but knowledge of the snitz code is minimal.

Or, is there anyone out there who's implemented the UserGroups mod on NT and is prepared to sing its praises?

Is there another way round this? Help and ideas appreciated.

Update:

Anyone else with similar questions would be interested to know that I went ahead and installed the UserGroups mod. It took a couple of hours but went smoothly enough. (The only file where the estimated lines-to-edit was way out was post_info.) I am currently testing the forum with a few users; it seems to be working fine and I have successfully set up a read-only user group, which works fine also.
