thx!
After it's initial charge I got almost 3 hrs which is a lot better than I expected (wifi on permanently), power isn't such a problem for me, I have battery packs and solar panels in my car for charging stuff if I need to, will run a full test over the weekend when I have time to do a full battery calibration.
My first impressions... Bloody amazing piece of kit. even the GPRS setup was a doddle, just popped in my sim card and it did everything else and was online in under a minute, when I set up my pcmcia GPRS adaptor on my laptop it took > 30 mins just to get it working |

splendid stuff!
Don't suppose it'll work on 3G too, will it? I guess that requires extra magic somewhere? |

No, only GPRS, but you can get PCMCIA 3G cards from Orange and Vodafone, however, I investigated this a couple of weeks ago, and the coverage is so poor (basically limited to major cities) that you are better off with just GPRS since most of the time that is all you will get even on 3G |

That's true enough - got a 3G mobe with Orange (hey, it was free with 50M/month GPRS and 3G downloads, worked out better than the 'world access pack' for just GPRS) and 3G occasionally works at work (even though we've got our own Orance cell, my desk is just too far...), barely works indoors anyway, works a treat in most of Oxford (just not when you really need it) and is a lost cause at home (where I can't even get a GSM signal indoors!). When it works, it's nice, but most of the time it just uses GPRS anyway ;-) |
