Hi I wonder if you can help me...
I'd like to set an image as a background image to a table. However, I'd like a part of this image to link to a certain page.
I know about image maps, but I need to have the image as a background, due to more images being placed over the top (and I can't have these part of the image map - if you understand what I mean).
Is it possible to somehow tell the browser that part of the background image is a link to elsewhere?
I came across this; http://www.alistapart.com/articles/imagemap/ but I think I'm having a dumb day, and not sure how to implement this, or if it's what I'm looking for.
Basically, it's an image background for the top of a forum, with part of it linking to the forum default page (the forum logo on Snitz). This image is set as the background for a table, due to more images being placed inside the table for links to 'active topics', 'search' etc etc (and these cannot be part of the map). If I place the background image as an image inside the table, it obviously shuffles the other images down.
I hope you can understand what I'm trying to explain...?
Thanks for your help, Oli |

I understand what you're doing just not why you're doing it. Why exactly can't the logo be a regular image, seperate from your background?
To acheive what you want to do, place an transparent gif over the logo in your background image and use that for your link.

It's due to the same image (but different file), being shown on the main site, so I need the logo to be aligned exact. The only way I thought of aligning it exactly the same as the other image, is to have the logo, part of the image and to use an image map to link it. The same with the transparent gif - I'd like it to aligned exactly over the logo.
If not, I'll use your transparent gif idea. |

maybe you can capture the click co-ordinates in javascript and handle them accordingly client-side? Kinda out-of-my-depth with the implementation, but maybe the (X,Y) are trapped somewhere?

Ay, transparent gif is the best option there, so. You shouldn't have too much difficulty overlaying it over the logo in your background. If you're having problems, throw me a link (by e-mail if you don't want the masses to see it ).
