OK, I have been out of full time employment for about 10 months after the boss I had was a total ass. I was not the only one to be forced to vacate thier role with in the major bank I worked for, as over 10 others shortly after I left, where also forced to leave for no wrong doing of our own as well. He was just a total... He is no longer there so I have been told because of his stuff ups.
Well on Friday, Melbourne time I was finally given a letter of offer (which I signed) to head up the Microsoft technologies at one of the large Telco companies here in Australia, and one in the top 100 Telco's in the world, to which I start on Monday.
I just thought that I would share that as it has been a long hard stuggle here to get another role after the former line manager who you proved to be an idiot tells recruitment companies not to put you forward for any roles. I am stoked (happy as) to now be in the full time work force again.

Congratulations David!!
I have been in a similar situation myself a couple of years ago ... 10 months at home as a 'house husband' as a result and I just recently quit my fulltime job because my boss was an arsehole to work for and had learned evertyhing he knows about human resources management from spam. It takes a while to rebuild your self confidence in securing a job when these things happen. Anyway enough about me .. best of luck in the new job! Hopefully you will still have time for snitzing here with us. |

David,
did you not know that it is an unwritten law that the boss you report to is always a "know nothing a-hole"
Congrats on the new position. |

Congrats David!
I went through a very similar situation myself so I can definitely relate.

Congrats, Dave, welcome back to the world of impossible deadlines and underappreciated overtime!

If you can prove somehow, or even gain any evidence that your chances were being spiked by your old boss, you may have a valid case to scare him/gain compensation for 'defimation of character' (check the spelling first though), or slander/libel (AUS law being very similar to UK law).
So, you probably won't win, you probably will not gain any monetary compensation, but he/his company may offer an out-of-court settlement if you get huffy enough. At the very least, he'll have a few sleepless nights
Remember, it's a dish best served cold
>>EDIT - Forgot to say WOO YAY! for your new job - well done, been there, done that, really dismal time when jobhunting for month after month...Wishing you the very best of luck with your new idio^H^H^H^Hboss |
