Hi everyone,
Iv'e installed a new 200gb harddrive on my server.
However, it says that it's only 127gb, can anyone tell me how to override this limit?
Iv'e read on microsoft.com but it doesn't tell you how to override the limit, it just tells you about it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Mike.

Did you run the latest fdisk.exe on it before formatting and pick the setting for large partitions?

You should pick a good partition managing app and use it to create your partition(s) with the desired partition(s) size(s).

BIOS' from just a few years ago were only able to address 127GB. Check for an update from either the PC vendor or the MB manufacturer.

-gary probably hit the nail on the head, it's more than likely a BIOS issue. If so the drive vendor may have provided a BIOS extension you can install on the drive, which might be adequate if you're adding an additional drive to the server. I would not want my boot drive to use a bios extender.

You didn't mention what version OS you're running. You should make sure the OS is fully up-to-date.

I am using Windows 2003 Server Standard.
The motherbaord is from Intel's 2005 series, i am sure the bios is up-to-date.
Maybe i should use Windows update or will a partition program such as the Acronis one will do the job?

Mike.

I have a 160 GB drive. Last July I bought a new computer with a up to date motherboard. When I tried to format the drive I got only 120 GB or similar (can't remember the exact figure). I solved the problem by using the Acronis Disk Director(yes, I also use it as well as Acronis True Image for backups!). So, yes, I believe the Acronis program or other partition manager will do the job.

If I'm not mistaken, this is a registry issue, try searching on google or MSDN, you need to add a registry setting called enableBigLBA or something like that
