I have version 3.4.0.5 and have attempted to install the Avitar MoD.
If I used the amended config.asp file the forum doesn't open at all, I have checked and double cheked the new entries. However if I reinstall the original config.asp I can enter the forum as normal with the exception that no avatars appear in new or old posts, not even a place-holder.
I have a folder in the forum folder called NewAvatars to which new ones are added and everything seems to work fine when uploading etc. users can select an avatar in the profile area etc.
There are no error messages to go by - just no avatars.
The version of the MoD is 1.3 and the forum is version 3.4.0.5 - I followed the instructions for 3.4.0.3, could it be somthing to do with this? or something else?

I'm gonna be updating the readme this weekend and will make/add in sections for 3.4.0.5, but AFAIK it should be pretty similar to what ever is in there now. |

Hav you chosen an avatar in your profile ? Did you make the changes to 2 different places in topic.asp ?
Also try creating a new topic, then replying to it as well.
I have installed this MOD on several 3405's and not had any problems at all. |

Try running the "Check Installation" from the admin options. I just installed the mod and the size values were not being loaded, meaning all images had a width and height of 0. Running "Check Installation" loads the config values and fixes this. |

Thanks for your input guys. In reply
1. Yes avatars have been chose in the profile for all test accounts - no change 2. Changes in two places in topic.asp?? I ignored the instructions for earlier versions, I have since checked these instructions for any relevance and there is none that I can see. All amendment and additons were done using the instructions for 3.4.0.3. 3. I have created and replied to topics using different test accounts - no effect 4. I have used the 'Check Installation' in admin options and it reports no errors.
The config file in use currently has no modifications for this MoD - when I do make the modifications as per the instructions I cannot open the forum at all - not even a log in screen
I'm not script literate - I follow instructions written for noobs so please keep your replies simple.
Many Thanks

Gotta ask cause I used to not do it and got into heaps of trouble.
Did you update the database first?
quote: Upload all the files to your forum directory.
Update the database
Go to Admin Options > Mod Setup Select Avatar Mod for 3.4 from the dropdown list Click "Update"
This is before you do the amendments to existing files.
Neil.

Yes I did - I followed the instructions to the letter - we noobs do that
I have just noticed however that in the Avatar settings it will not save them - I change it to show avatar in profile = yes, save it, but if I go back in it has not changed
This happens no matter what size I select etc.
I'm running short of time as I'm under pressure to get this forum live and I still have other MoDs to install such as Pm etc. |

Darn search is not working
error '80040e14' /forum/search_mssqlft.asp, line 179
But I remember a post here about saving settings.. Also I sort of recall I had to actually load a avatar up to get it to save. And there was some trick to getting all posters showing Avatars but as I say search seems to be on the fritz's so I can't check.

I just tried the following
Stopped the Board, renamed the config.asp to old_config.asp, copied the edited config.asp into the forum, the restarted the board. The following is the message I got. ################################################################### Status : 502 Bad Gateway
Description : The origin web server encountered an unexpected condition which prevented it from fulfilling the request. Please try your request again. ####################################################################
What line in the edited version would cause this error message? Is it related to the avatars not displaying?
If I reverse the above all works fine - less Avatars
Is the Earth still flat? Am I going mad?

can you put up a txt version of the amended config.asp file? From around line 64 onwards.
I'm no expert but I can look at it against mine.

I saw that post and did a comparison - posted below just in case I missed something.
rM_NAME = 0 rM_RECEIVE_EMAIL = 1 rM_AIM = 2 rM_ICQ = 3 rM_MSN = 4 rM_YAHOO = 5 rM_TITLE = 6 rMEMBER_ID = 7 rM_HOMEPAGE = 8 rM_LEVEL = 9 rM_POSTS = 10 rM_COUNTRY = 11 rM_Avatar = 12 rREPLY_ID = 13 rFORUM_ID = 14 rR_AUTHOR = 15 rTOPIC_ID = 16 rR_MESSAGE = 17 rR_LAST_EDIT = 18 rR_LAST_EDITBY = 19 rR_SIG = 20 rR_STATUS = 21 rR_DATE = 22 if CanShowSignature = 1 then rM_SIG = 23 end if and from around line 309 I have this:
'## Forum_SQL strSql = "SELECT M.M_NAME, M.M_RECEIVE_EMAIL, M.M_AIM, M.M_ICQ, M.M_MSN, M.M_YAHOO" strSql = strSql & ", M.M_TITLE, M.MEMBER_ID, M.M_HOMEPAGE, M.M_LEVEL, M.M_POSTS, M.M_COUNTRY, M.M_AVATAR_URL" strSql = strSql & ", R.REPLY_ID, R.FORUM_ID, R.R_AUTHOR, R.TOPIC_ID, R.R_MESSAGE, R.R_LAST_EDIT" strSql = strSql & ", R.R_LAST_EDITBY, R.R_SIG, R.R_STATUS, R.R_DATE" if CanShowSignature = 1 then strSql = strSql & ", M.M_SIG" end if strSql2 = " FROM " & strMemberTablePrefix & "MEMBERS M, " & strActivePrefix & "REPLY R "
However around line 96 I have this which does not match up - Is it supposed to?
'## Forum_SQL - Get original topic and check for the Category, Forum or Topic Status and existence strSql = "SELECT M.M_NAME, M.M_RECEIVE_EMAIL, M.M_AIM, M.M_ICQ, M.M_MSN, M.M_YAHOO" & _ ", M.M_TITLE, M.M_HOMEPAGE, M.MEMBER_ID, M.M_LEVEL, M.M_POSTS, M.M_COUNTRY, M.M_AVATAR_URL" & _ ", T.T_DATE, T.T_SUBJECT, T.T_AUTHOR, T.TOPIC_ID, T.T_STATUS, T.T_LAST_EDIT" & _ ", T.T_LAST_EDITBY, T.T_LAST_POST, T.T_SIG, T.T_REPLIES" & _ ", C.CAT_STATUS, C.CAT_ID, C.CAT_NAME, C.CAT_SUBSCRIPTION, C.CAT_MODERATION" & _ ", F.F_STATUS, F.FORUM_ID, F.F_SUBSCRIPTION, F.F_SUBJECT, F.F_MODERATION, T.T_MESSAGE" if CanShowSignature = 1 then strSql = strSql & ", M.M_SIG" |

The order of some of those fields are a bit different, but let's ignore that for now. Can you upload (to your site) a text verion of your topic.asp (call it topic.txt). I still think that this file is wrong seeing you have no other errors.
And a test account & password would be great as well |

I'm afraid I can't do that as this part of the site is not yet live, can I email you the file?
(Ignore that - I've emailed the details to you) |
