I was in the market for a newsletter program. I searched around for awhile and selected a product called MailList Controller from Arclab (http://www.arclab.com/)
From their site the product looked to be exactly what I was looking for. I was looking for a web based product; however, this was a desktop application and seemed to suite my requirements otherwise. I purchased the Standard edition and installed it.
I have had many e-mails with the developer on how to try and install it and begged for detailed instructions on how to implement it. I could not get it to connect correctly with the MySQL database nor could I get the application to connect correctly with my mail server. Each time I would try and do what they suggested and each time it would fail. I’d send another pleading e-mail and again more cryptic descriptions of how to attempt to get it to work.
I asked each time for detailed instructions on how to set the system up. The product came with very vague instructions and each time I received an e-mail it was very brief and assumed I knew where in the program to be, or even worse, how to set up the database connection using a tool I needed to download from MySQL! This was never mentioned anywhere, except in an e-mail after I could not get it to work.
I spent $99 on the product and have tried for almost a week to get it running. The developer usually responds within a day but has yet to offer any help to get it running. I fear I will eat those $99 and need to find another tool.
I would not normally post something derogatory toward a company, but I feel this is a truly difficult product to get running and they have offered very little help, none of is useful. Can’t tell someone else what to do, but I will not purchase another product from this company. |

What sort of problems are you having, perhaps collectively we can help you get it installed without the Vendors help.
I'm guessing it was myODBC you had to install? thats probably not neccesarily the vendors fault for not telling you, if you were trying to get mySQL to run on windows you'd have needed that to be installed.
What version of mySQL are you trying to install ? the latest doesn't actally work all that well with the current myODBC drivers (as some Snitzers have already discovered). |
