Looking at all the facier (and very impressive) forums on these pages I guess we're pretty minimalist. The layout hasn't changed much from the base snitz look. But I guess it's been successful enough that we didn't get many complaints over the 3 years we've had this setup ;)

There isn't actually a website to speak of, we've always been a standalone forum, so the main page is very rudimentary.
Most of the modifications went into the admin side of things, and there are features you won't see unless you are a user such as statistics pages, but there are a lot of subtle touches to personalize it a bit that we've done over the years. All custom icons, banners etc.

Enjoy!

not bad...

if you're a minimalist, then I would recommend turning off the moderators column. I think your logo can use a little work as well, but the forum actually looks very clean and nicely done.

I agree with dayve about the moderators column... and about the image...

I think the image looks good, the text could be a little bigger though, instead of bein bunched up in the corner like that, maybe add a sculpture or texture effect to it (metallic-like)

Other than that it looks really good

I really like the default.asp look, but the other pages seem a little bland after the grand entrance.
I agree with the others about the logo. It's too blurry and the text is too hard to read.

But, as you said, it's worked for your members for a long time, so don't change anything unless it adds to the experience.

Side note: I can't believe you don't have to add any disclaimer to the pages because of Star Wars' copyrights

Very nice!!!!! How did you do the forum's icons ? (A different icon for each forum) ?
That's a very cool detail!
Looking very good.
However, as said : the logo is too blurry. Before I read the other replies here I cleaned my glasses 3 times cause I thought they were smudgy Then I saw that it was not me but the logo... hehe

Also a very good custom smilies set! The Darth Maul smily is great! and ofcourse the Yoda!

I'd loose the 'Happy birthday' lines in the calendar, and replace them with one box of all birthdays. As you've got more than 365 members statistically you've got at least 1 birthday a day...

BTW, why is the Favicon working on your site ?? I've been trying to get it to work for over a year now, and I simply don't get it!!!
It does work in Firefox, but not in IE, and yours simply works...grrr.

Thank you for all comments and great advice! It's much appreciated :)

dayve- point taken on the logo. I agree it's not as crisp as it could be. I was going for a more painterly look there but it might have came out as washed out in the process. I guss the column might as well stay since it doesn't bother anyone, and I'm glad you like the clean look.

Stim- Thank you, and you're on to something. That banner was created much earlier then the other banners so I hadn't quite worked out the text at that point. I'll try to experiment.

Roland- You're right, I hesitate to make drastic changes because the look has become the signature of the forum. It's been there for a really long time. I agree the additional pages are missing something as far as graphics go. I've thought about doing a background image behind the forum, but it's really hard to beat the simplicity of that white (it's too easy to make things distracting).
As for the copyrights, you know, I've wondered about that myself I guess we're nowhere near to the official site's forum in popularity for them to go after us.

marcelgoertz- Thank you as well There was a little mod out there for having a different banner for each forum called "snitz title image". I wasn't able to find that thread for you, but it boiled down to just one thing, search for
strTitleImage & "||",strForumTitle,""
in inc_header.asp and replace it with
"image_" & Forum_ID & ".jpg||",strForumTitle,""
you then create images for each forum for instance image_3.jpg and place them in your forum directory.
Back in the snitz 3.3 days I actually got it to hold the image for as long as you were in that forum (right now it will revert to the main banner as soon as you go to topic.asp). I'm just too much of an asp newbie to get this to work in snitz 3.4

"Also a very good custom smilies set!"

Thanks! In all fairness I didn't create many of the post smilies like that maul (I made the bigger icons in that set) but I did create all the xp-ish forum icons from scratch, as well as the banners, default.asp icons etc.

"I'd loose the 'Happy birthday' lines in the calendar, and replace them with one box of all birthdays."

The calendar is definitely overkill for what we're using it for since the only thing in it right now are birthdays, but it aught to come in handy if we start putting in some actual events.

"BTW, why is the Favicon working on your site ?? I've been trying to get it to work for over a year now, and I simply don't get it!!!"

I do remember jumping through some hoops to make it work but as it was literally a couple of years ago I'll be ****ed if I remember what the specifics were.

Thanks again everyone!

read about the favicon. And localhost doesnt show the icon.
Other tric is to take the webpage icon (that is in front of url) and drag it aside couple times some times it helps

Enter... the suggestion I gave was not for creating a favorite icon, it was for making it appear when it doesn't seem to be showing correctly. I don't know why you brought up the localhost issue either.

Very nice!
I like the color scheme, and especially the forums icons.

You could change the font size on your main page to fit your forum's size, but apart from that very well done.
