In my attempt to figure out just how this option works and what it is used for, I set the following feature/option:
Main Forum Configuration Set Cookie To: Website
The help for this option states the following:
Set Cookie To... You can tell your forum to set it's cookie to either the forum, or the base website. You would set it to the forum if you were hosting multiple forums on the same server or the same domain, and they each had different user communities, otherwise you want this feature set to Website and NOT Forum.
This is the only forum I have planned for my domain, which happens to be ‘eq2.tspwebs.net’. For this reason I set it to ‘Website’.
As soon as I set this option I am unable to logout of the forums. I click on ‘Logout’ and get the message “You logged out successfully!”. However, when it forwards me back to the page I was on...or when I click ‘Back to forum’ I am still logged in.

FYI...this is a fresh install of 3.4.04 with no mods. This was the first thing I attempted to do with this new install. |

Have you tried deleting all your cookies and then restarting your browser and trying it again?
What the option does is simply to control the .Path used to save the cookies. If its set to forum then the path is /forum if website then it's set to / In theory what it should do is make the cookies available to all of your website when set that way, in practice I've always had a few problems with it myself and have just hardcoded the "/" in the config.asp file. |

I had this problem myself when I upgraded my entire site to ASP and set the cookies to website. What happened was, because the old cookie (set to forums) still existed, when the website cookie was "destroyed" by logging out the forum would read the old cookie effectively making it impossible to log out. The two things you can do are:
1) As Gremlin suggested, delete the old cookie. Problem is, if you're going to retain this setting, your visitors will still have the old cookie on their machines.
2) A better solution would be to edit config.asp manually to change the name of the cookie your forums use. However, this means that all your visitors will have to login again.

Cookies aren't actually set from config.asp they're set from various other pages in the forum. |
