I had been having problems with it for the last few months. The thing would lock up and have to be unplugged to get it going again. I tried about 4 or 5 different firmwares, was using one from 2002 because it was the most stable. My wife has been playing a game called "Second Life" (I was a beta tester, but was never really able to play much because of the limited hours they were available back then), and when we both tried to play at the same time we would get disconnects, and other weird stuff (IMs going to my character instead of hers, items getting mixed up between players, etc...).
So, I replaced it with a D-Link DI-601. Now, no more lock ups, no more disconnects, and more than 1 person can play Second Life at the same time without problems.
I've also just started playing on XBox Live (only have Crimson Skies at the moment), and the lag that was present with the Linksys is gone.
Up until a few months ago, I hadn't had any problems with that Linksys Router, not sure what changed that caused the problems...
I also got a Netgear MP101 Digital Music Player and love how simple it was to setup and start using. (I got it for my wife to use...) |

Hm, interesting. I've got a BEFW11S4 and have had no issues with it. Had it for years. Bought one for my parents, my girl's parents, friends, yada... I've been happy. I'm not a massive-multiple-people-playing-online-through-the-router-kinda-guy though. <smile>
Thanks for the info... |

I have 3 linksys befsr41, 1 befsr81, and one dlink di604. I've had problems witht the dlink but not any of the linksys. I did have one client with a linksys that also locked up on occasion, eventually linksys replaced the unit and the problems went away.

I usually run linksys but i've also owned dlink and it was good too. I've had no personal problems with both. However, one newer router at work will randomly reboot itself. I've even done firmware upgrades and still no go. I let it sit around too long to send back too. Oh well, I guess that's another pieve of equipment I bring home. |

I like the WRT54G's personally, running Sveasoft's firmware on them is great. Have about 4 of them and never had an issue.
Could it have been a heat issue or something like that Richard? |

No, I don't think it was a heat issue. Just unplugging it and then plugging it back in would fix the problem for awhile. The problem was worse with some of the newer firmware versions, and better with the older ones. It's a version 2 model. |
