I would like to keep my version, made some changes, and just add in the email verification.. can some one let me know which specific files need to be upgraded to v.04 ? for that change, I have been unable to find a mod to .03 to allow email validation..

Email validation? You haven't said what version you are using.
If you are using a very old forum version, the following files would need to be modified/added:

register.asp
pop_profile.asp
inc_func_posting.asp
config.asp
admin_home.asp
admin_accounts_pending.asp
admin_config_email.asp

There are also database changes you would need to make too.

hmm..
I'm using Version 3.4.03
hoping the changes won't be that bad..

Are the database changes significant..

It's already included in the base code of v3.4.03 (v3.4.xx), you just have to enable it in Admin Section -> E-mail Server Configuration.
