Anyone know of a good tool to create 3d text, besides that annoying Xara that is all over the web?

Not to hijack this topic, but I was wondering kind of the same.

Adobe offers Photo Shop cs. I would need to sell a kidney to buy it.

I own Fireworks 4, but don't find it that easy to use for text.

Is there something in between?

I would recommend Paint Shop Pro as well. I've been using it for the last year or so and can't believe how I worked without it!

I've only tried PSP a few times, but I hated it. Fireworks is a lot easier to use, unless you want to do photo manipulation, but that's not what it's meant to do.

If you hate PSP, you're really going to hate PhotoShop

No doubt about that, but then again, it's an Adobe product, so how could I not hate it?

I took a look on e-bay, and there are quite a few copies available. I'm bidding on a couple now - I have a bad habit of bidding on more than one of the same thing.

Fireworks is nice. If I'm going to shell out bucks for another image editor, I'd buy that. Until then, I'm sticking with Photoshop 5

Just remember that Fireworks isn't suitable for editing large images, like letter sized images or anything like that, and its image manipulation tools (brushes, masking tools) are lacking for professional image editing purposes.
In other words: for images you want to print professionally you'll need another program, even if you're only going to use it to convert the images from RGB to CMYK.

OK Roland, I'll bite ... if you don't like PSP or PS and it doesn't sound like FireWorks is up to par, what do you use ?

PS. Just curious, no anger intended - please don't read anything into it.

CorelDraw Graphics Suite has Photo-Paint, which is what we use at work, so that's what I use to convert the images I use in Fireworks.

OK, so here is my latest hair brained idea.

I called Adobe and Photoshop CS ($649) can be upgraded from any prior registered copy, at least as far back as 3.0.

e-bay has many prior versions, most less than $50. The CS upgrade version is only 169. Hmm, is it me or is this too easy? A 649 dollar product for about 200, and it's perfectly legal. Am I missing something?

Are the licenses transferable? I seem to recall that some SW companies don't allow it.

The ones I saw on e-Bay weren't registered yet.
