I've been looking into what can be done with CSS. I dropped by This forum. Alot of good points there.

A link was made to This forum. The whole thing is done without Tables.

This got me thinking. What would be the pros and cons of making Snitz table-less, like the forum i linked?

Tehnically, forums are tabulated data, so the use of tables here is correct.
Using tables to affect the layout of a page is incorrect.

The authors of both the links use incorrectly-served XHTML too...

So, in short, theres not point in editing Snitz so it works without tables?

IMHO, it would be incorrect, yes.

D3mon is correct but standards have never been met, everyone uses tables for design which they are not meant for. More and more people are "trying" to adhere to these standards nowadays which is nice. Bear in mind XHTML compliant sites are meant to work perfectly with mobile devices. It is hard but there are some nice sites coming through like the one you posted.

If you're bored, try and make Snitz XHTML compliant!

Seems like a nice task t take my mind of things

There's a few compliances you could look at. Apparently, there is a disability law going under force in the UK late this year so you could look at into that, snitz is okay in it's base form but any css mods would/may fail, God knows how they would enforce it though!

XHTML is basically ensuring you close every tag you open, even those that don't have closing tags like <img>, <img="pic.gif"> should be <img="pic.gif" />

Also, look at AA, AAA and Bobby compliancy, that should fill your 6 weeks!

Speedball II is *almost* XHTML compliant (when served correctly).
Using and gaining the full benefit of XHTML is not as simple as just placing the correct DTD at the top of the document!

I am actually looking at converting ServerHacker's fully modded forum into transitional XHTML. I've had a look at your Speedball version, D3mon, and I'm mightily impressed! It *is* a huge job to undertake, and I agree that tables do seem appropriate. Take that Portland forum, for example. Just look at the number of "div" tags the author uses. I can't imagine it's any more efficient than serving up a table.

XHTML and CSS have a lot to offer Snitz. My approach is basically to remove as many surplus tables as possible, all font tags, and use CSS with an appropriately small selection of divs.

I must admit that Speedball2 is not particularly optimized WRT to tables/DIVs and the correct/appropriate use thereof.
I'd spend some time working on a version with fewer tables and improved accessibility, but it (Speedball) seems to have 'fallen flat on its face' on account of its incompatibility with standard Snitz Mods.

Yeah, that's something I have thought about a few days ago (I was playing around with the Speedball 2 forum ).
I originally wanted to convert all my MODs for Speedball 2, but haven't found the time yet. Especially keeping standard-Snitz-MODs AND Speedball-converted MODs up-to-date is a lot more work.

My MODs:
Birthdays - Custom Policy - F.A.Q. Administration - Forum Rules - Guestbook
Links Manager - MyOwnGoogle - Profile Views - Search Log - WebSearch

Useful stuff:
Forum and MOD Installation - MOD Installation Guide - Snitz v3.4.05 Readme - Free ASP Hosts - Support Snitz
