A forum that I help out at (using Snitz, obviously) runs very slow. We run on Access and have over 500 members. According to the hosts stat page, this month we have had over 10,000 hits. I have archived the forum once and at a guess I think we have over 16,000 posts (the page wont load). I dont think the forum should be running slow even though it is on Access. What do you think? |

Sounds like server overload. I have over 600 members, 50000+ posts TONS of mod's. The page generation times are usually less than 0.5 seconds but the latency is sometimes a bit high.

Another question. On my forum, does the load time and all seem to be OK for you? Or is it a little slow? I am running on Access. If you think it is slow do you think I can help speed it up or is my host not "up to par"? Let me know... |

it was a little sluggish for me.
However, I will say that 10000 hits in a month is not very much, that only equates to around 300 hits per day, which is probaly only around 20 visits, are you sure your figures are correct. |

Was a little slow here for me too .. the webserver doesn't seem to be pushing out the pages all that fast just judging by how quickly my browsers percentage counter was rising fairly slowly. took maybe 8 seconds to load your default page for me.
I would also say its not database related though, your page generation timer looks fine, most likely the uplink speed of your host is where the congestion/delays are occuring. |

Those site stats at the bottom are a joke. Just type in subdirectory /stats/ and you will see the meatier stuff. |

Also, can the slowness of the forum be improved by my host if I asked them too? I am supposed to get 25 gigs a month... |

25Gigs is the amount of bandwidth your get, it's not the "speed" of the bandwidth though, talk to your host, let them know you have some concerns about the speed and see what they come back to you with. |

Remember that you server may not be the same timezone as your Snitz setting. |

I assume this forum uses MySQL. Am I correct or not? |

Which forum? Snitz at this site? If that's the case, then it uses MS SQL Server. |

Thanks. That is what I meant. Here is the message I got from my host: I have checked this and everything appears to be working well at the moment. If you still have problems then it may be worth checking connection settings as the problem, in this case, does not appear to be caused by our server.

The server may well be working, that doesn't mean it working "well", I still stand by it being either related to the speeds of the pipes out of that server, or just the server itself being slow pushing data out. I'm still seeing about 8 second load times. Watch the percentage bar in IE to see how fast it's receiving data from the server .. I'm on a 2Mb link so should be pretty fast unless the servers on a much slower link. |
