whenever I have my Norton Inernet Security enabled - it makes certain graphics on pages not appear.
I do not anything to say image unavailable - since the images are actually there - where the code says it is - but for some reason - when the NIS / NAV 2004 application is enabled - many web pages appear without their graphics.
Has anyone else noticed this ?
Has anyone got any ideas what in the site code is making this happen ?
It even affects the ads displayed by Google Adsense too. I am not so bothered about this though - but the not showing the graphics by default is a bit worrying. If it something in my code that needs amending I need to sort it out.
Thanks.

in NIS, fireall sectiojn turn off ad blocking, the google adsense shows up, I am currently running NIS and have that disabled and the google ads show up and so do all images, although I do get an occasioal image that is x'ed out, but right clicking and clicking show picture resolves the problem, but that happens rarely. |

You might find it's not NIS at all, IE since about version 6 SP1 seems to randomly decide not to display images for me and I've had a lot of other people say similar things happen for them too. |

Turning off "Ad Blocking" worked.
I know it isn't an IE problem this what I am experiencing - and have known NIS to block these images - but I just can't work out why....
i.e. the code for the image placement of some of the images on the same page are the same as others - but it seems to block some.
I just want it so that people can see the images no matter if they have ad-blocking on or not.
hmmmm ...tis very strange.

figured it out
...all the graphis it was happening to, had somewhere in there name the term or string "banner"
i.e.
one image was called banner.jpg another was called banner_01.gif and an other was bannertext.jpg
The NIS adblocking part must do a block of all images with banner in the name.
pheww.....
this one has been bugging me for months - finally sorted.
dont call any images banner***
cheers,

lol yup that will do it :) most ad blockers use the directory or image name at some stage to try and decide if the image is an advert or not. |

That stupid Ad Blocker blocks my DHTML menu from working, it does not have banner in the title but it is in a folder called javascript, could that be the problem? |

That is a possibility, and illustrates why it is so bad!
<rant> Why do these things exist ?, are the general public so gullible that they think it serves a purpose ? I have been active online since well before the internet reared its head, and I have never ever, had my computer compromised or caught a virus from visiting a web site, and I have visited some pretty dodgy places </rant> |

it also gets my goat (<--- is that just an english phrase !) that NIS - for me at least - stops all forwarding scripts too....
For example,
Many login screens that I visit just wnt work when NIS is on.
Even on here, when I post something - the I just end up at a blank screen with the inc_header.asp file and the footer showing and nothing else - and it just stays like this - with the only links showing being those in the login area - i.e. no direct or quick way to get back to the area you were looking at.
the post_info.asp file does not redirect me back to the Forum after posting when NIS is on.
With it off - it works as it should.
This is strange though - since for some reason the post_info.asp page works ok on my site with NIS off or on. I dont know if I modified it in anyway - but here on Snitz - the redirection back to default.asp seems affected when NIS is on.
