I hope I don't have a virus...
I am running on xp pro, dell inspiron laptop, external trackball mouse.
A few days ago my mouse became alive and moved off the screen on its own and everytime I move it back it pulls itself off again. That was for a few min.
Then yesterday it did it for a little longer, last evening.
Today, for the last hour its been doing this.
My mouse is new. I replaced it 2 days ago. Also, when I disconect the external mouse I still have the problem.
Also, I have the latest norton, with lasted daily update and just did a scan...nothing ideas??

Nah, I have the same thing, but no external mouse - it just happens when the computer think the mouse is moving (i.e. not properly calibrated ... but that's not the right words). I only use the keyboard stick, so I just move it around in a few circles and it usually stops. |

i used to have that happen on my old toshiba laptop ... no external mouse. i'd do like laser did, sometimes it would work, sometimes it took quite awhile for it to finally behave again. never did figure out why it happened. |

Thanks. Will shut down and start up again. Like you said no virus. Did another check and went to norton website and did an online check.
The mouse is "caught in the right hand corner and can't get it back out, keeps sliding up there.
Very strange - as have had computer for over 1 year without this ever happening.

from what i've seen by doing a google search, it seems the mouse is doing a self calibration and you are suppose to not touch it will it does that.
however, maybe you just got a bad trackball. |

Thanks for your help.
Figured it out. Computer has the little button mouse and a touchpad mouse. I disabled the button mouse and now the touchpad mouse and external mouse are happy.
When on just button mouse - it was pulling to one of the cornes so - must be faulty. Seems a common problem and as of nov 26, 2003 dell have provided an upgrade.
Thanks again. Tania |
