if cable or dsl is not available in the area, then wireless is kind of uselss to implement. but, the answer to your question is no, it is not hard to set up. there are extra security measures you have to consider though. |

Yeah, its been done. I almost signed onto one a few years ago. It wasn't Wi-Fi, it was a much more complex system . . . but then cable became avalible for the same price (but a fraction of the bandwidth ) |

When I say more complex system, I mean the recievers were rather pricey. It was like a 1200$ initial investment, which is why I went with cable) |

I left mine open for public access. I now monitor all activity on the network to see if it's being used and what kind of activity. But I currently only have my laptop on it which is not on M-F until about 7pm...why be greedy with the bandwith.
However, no takers yet! Sorry Dayve, you can't have the address, it's only for those lucky enough to come accross it. If it gets too busy I'll then close it up (as best possible).
The range on mine (2wire, it was free :)]) is not all that good. 100-200 feet at most. |

There was an article on "The Race to Wire America" in the NYTimes about something like what you're asking for. Some company in Utah called Utah Wireless or Utah Broadband (well something like that anyway).
It's probably in the paid archives by now. |
