I was wondering if anyone had ever compared Snitz Forums to phpBB in detail, including a comparison of functions and the pros and cons of going with either of them.
I'm just implementing snitz for a company intranet and have realised that others in a different part of the company have gone with phpBB. I'd like to pursuade them to use my forum and snitz!
cheers mf

The main difference between the two is the Application Server. Snitz uses ASP and phpBB uses PHP (obviously). I have used both extensively and actually I enjoy both. ... I know, I know, BLASPHEMY! However, the support and modifications are much better over here at Snitz.
It all really depends on the administrator of the forums and their skill capability. I have not seen one thing that could be done on one that could not be done on the other. |

I use both, phpBB have more features in the standard package, but the support is better at Snitz, so it´s a matter of preference and what your host supports. |

One of the prerequisites of being a moderator was never admiting in public the acceptance of any other forum software. In fact, the oppurtnuity should be seen as a moment to trash the competition!!
The only pluss I see for those with no skill is that phpBB has some built in features that are nice. Whereas in Snitz you'd have to MOD the forum. Albeit, my favorite part is modding so it comes out my way and not their way. |

Really? Most of my forums run phpbb2, and I'm also the primary deveoper of CoreBoard. Guess I'll never be a moderator. |

Mr. Bales, my comment was in jest. However, I had no idea you were a developer at CoreBoard!!

Here are my honest opinions about phpBB, please do not get offended if you are it's fan: I HATE IT! I really do, it's crap, slow, unstable and php looks bvery hard to MOD as well.. I was very unhappy with it when I had it, but then I converted my database to IPB which is hell better than phpBB. I think it would be better to compare IPB with Snitz, because comparing phpBB with Snitz is like comparing sky with the ground. Snitz is hell better than phpBB, but I have a feeling that I like IPB because of some features, good & very very quick support and very handy resources, just as good as Snitz.
The reason why I like Snitz more than others is because it's easy to MOD, friendly staff, and also quite good support. But I do not like the way people insult Snitz because of it's original graphics which are used here. The only thing I think should be improved here on snitz.com is the graphics.
Oh and by the way, off topic but thought I'd say it as well.. You know the Snitz Award? I think it looks quite old, and it suited the old logo, but now I think that Snitz should make an award which looks similar to the current logo and the colour-scheme. |

When I first got into this forum stuff I could have used just about any software. Snitz, IPB, phpBB etc. I chose Snitz because the GUI was clean, User-Friendly and fast.
I don't like IPB, or phpBB, the GUI's suck IMO, and there not fast.
Then other things come into play, Database support, Email component support etc...but Snitz is my clear choice.
Unfortunately, The only reason I don't like Nathan's CoreBoard is because the GUI isn't what I like, I'd have to heavily modify it. |

After CoreBoard has been out for a while there should be plenty of templates to download for it. Its fully templatable, thats the beaty of it.
I'm even thinking it will be posible to make a Macromedia Flash template for a fully flash interface. |

Oh, Sweet!
From what I've seen (not the GUI, but the way everything works) It looks like you've done a great job. =) |
