Those of you who have businesses - whether they are online businesses or not, what software do you utilise for the accounts....
Say that does, Order Creation, Invoicing, Payroll, Balance Sheets, etc etc.
I have utilised QuickBooks for the pat three or four years for this, but at this junction in time I am at a particular crossroads in my business - at if I am going to change - now is the time.
Any alternatives to QuickBooks that you use ? and what is the reason for your choices ? Cost / featrures etc.
Any views, comments, thoughts most welcome.
best regards,

I have QB2002, Peachtree 8 and MS Money 2002 and I'll take Quickbooks myself, which is the package I use for my business.
Is there some particular reason you want to change accounting packages? Just changing for the heck of it wouldn't make much sense to me.

Thanks guys....
no Doug... sorry for confusion.
I have no reason to change as such - just was wondering about competitng alternates....
I did have a bit of a problem with different databases last year - when I had one pc with a Canadian version of QB on it - and the qbw was not compatitble with the US version - however it was only a temporary problem.
I was just sounding out other possibilities - since our new office is starting up and all the new pc's will have a new system...
i.e. if there was a better system - now would be a great time to take a look at it for me - rather than 3 months down the road when we are up and running...
thanks...

Well, in my opinion, unless there is some specific functionality that QB doesn't provide, QB is easier to use than the alternatives. It depends on how you like to run things, for example some people might think not having a requirement to close periods is a drawback, but for me I see it as a plus.
Peachtree is pretty good and has a couple modules that QB doesn't, but in general the two systems are very head-to-head comparable. Peachtree uses more disk space and I don't think it's as easy to do data entry, but maybe that's just me. The Peachtree I have is a couple years old, I don't know what changes may have been made in the most recent versions.
I can't comment on the higher-dollar accounting systems like Great Plains, etc.

We've been using QB for several years, and it's been working fine for us. We also use some of the electronic banking features, and my staff member who is primarily responsible for QB says that it's big time saver for him. |
