I'm really getting tired of this...

I'm running a dual-boot with Windows XP Pro, and Windows Longhorn 4015 (), I've got an AMD Athlon XP 2600+ @ 2.1ghz and a gig of DDR pc3200 RAM. (If it matters; I have 2 CD-RW, and DVD drives and 2 120GB HDD's) I really don't have much installed... (AIM, MSN, Trilian, Nero, VS.NET, VB6, Office XP, Kazaa, and a few small ones. Along with most of the XP components installed, IIS etc.)

I've modified my Boot screen and my LogonUI but it was the same with the default's.

It's really starting to hang on the boot screen, and the shutdown screen...20sec on the boot screen, and 3min on shutdown screen.

Any ideas? I really don't want to re-format again...

TIA

Check you've not got networking installed. The system can spend a long time during boot/shutdown connecting/disconnecting from a network that's not actually connected.

Well, I'm, uh, on a network...just a workgroup though. What components shouldn't be installed? (If your talking about a domain network)

How many systems on the workgroup? Is/are the other machine(s) usually off? Do you have any mapped drives to resources on the other machines? These are all things that the PC has to try and 'find' and confirm connection to during bootup when using a network of any kind.

re the protocols, I'd only use TCP/IP unless you have a Mac or some non-Microsoft OS on the network.
